Well it’s a year this month since I closed the door on jackies cafe.
I opened the cafe more than 30 years ago thinking it would be a small village cafe serving coffee, tea,snacks, but my first 4 customers walked in and asked for 4 breakfasts and not one to turn anyone away I ran over post office and bought sausage,bacon etc and after a longer than normal wait (which they didn’t mind) they had their breakfasts and continued to come in if they were working in area for years to come. I’ve loved everyday coming into work I’ve made some wonderful friends and had some very loyal customers I’ve had generations of the same families and I’ve had the pleasure of watching these families grow. My two girls Debbie and Paula grew up in cafe so all the customers knew them and they have also made a lot of friends through the cafe in fact Debbie married one of my customers so I was happy because I already knew Jason was a good one I even knew what he ate everyday 😂😂😂😂
Even I met my husband Steve in cafe and Steve has been invaluable in me running the place. I always knew Paula was safe when out to be cause a lot of my customers knew her so would keep an eye on her for me. All my granddaughters were keen to help me too, Abigail, Ella and Holly and my grandson Harrison who would come in every morning for his sausage sandwich 🥰 and Abi and Rhys have now given me and Steve a great grandson Jude who’s beautiful 😍.
Anyway to the point of me posting this as a lot of you know I had a major health scare that is why I had to close and I intended to reopen when I got over my operation as it turned out it was only a scare and I’m fine and fighting fit thank god, but all the time off has given me time to think how short life can be so after all my wonderful years in cafe I’ve decided to retire mind it took me till now to finally decide and even when I went up to clear the cafe out Monday I stood behind counter with a cuppa and thought it’s still looking good I could reopen this place tomorrow 😂😂😂😂
But no I have had a ball working there with fabulous staff but it’s time now to enjoy a bit of relaxation
