You'll find us right in the very heart of Ambleside, The Lake District, where we invite you to join us for lunch or just a coffee, or an evening of relaxation with good food, fine wines and cool beers all served with a warm welcome. We offer a menu to suit our customers of all ages and tastes - from light salads and pasta or freshly baked pizza to steaks and seafood. We're open from 12noon until 3

:00pm and then 5:00pm until late, with last orders taken at 9:00 pm. Drop in to see us next time you're visiting Ambleside - a warm welcome always awaits! 🐑 A chop with a story - Did you know?🥩

Legend has it that in 19th-century Yorkshire, a customer walked into a hotel and asked for “a big chop, a real chop… a Barnsley chop.”🍽️

🇬🇧The name stuck, and so did the reputation. Today, the Barnsley Chop remains one of the most impressive cuts of lamb you’ll find—cut across the whole lamb saddle, creating a generous double-loin chop that’s prized for its tenderness and flavour.

And yes, ours tastes as good as it looks! 😉
Our chef’s take is served with:

Today’s Italian food spotlight: Stromboli 🇮🇹✨

Before anyone asks… no, it’s not on our menu 😄 (yet🙄)
We just thought we’d share this interesting and delicious Italian-inspired dish with you!

Did you know Stromboli isn’t actually from Italy? While inspired by classic Italian flavours, Stromboli was first created in the United States by Italian-American communities in the 1950s.

It’s made by rolling pizza dough around layers of cheese, cured meats, and sauces before baking it until golden and crispy 🤤

Fun facts about Stromboli 👇

🍕 It’s often confused with a calzone — but the difference is in the shape! Calzones are folded like a half-moon, while Stromboli is rolled into a log and sliced.

🌋 The name “Stromboli” comes from the famous volcanic island in Italy, likely inspired by the dish’s hot, bubbling filling.

🧀 Traditional fillings usually include mozzarella, salami, pepperoni, or ham — but modern versions can include almost anything.

🇮🇹 Even though it’s Italian-inspired, you’re more likely to find Stromboli in Italian-American restaurants than in Italy itself.
