1 AUGUST 1747 – WHEN THE KILT BECAME ILLEGAL

On 1 August 1747, the Dress Act – part of the Act of Proscription – came into force across the Scottish Highlands.
The law banned most Highland men and boys from wearing traditional Highland dress, including kilts, tartans and plaids. Introduced after the Jacobite defeat at the Battle of Culloden, it was intended to weaken the Highland clan system and suppress a powerful symbol of Scottish identity.
The only major exception was for soldiers serving in Highland regiments of the British Army, who were still permitted to wear Highland dress as part of their uniform.

The ban remained in force until 1782.

Today, the kilt and tartan are celebrated around the world as enduring symbols of Scotland's heritage and pride 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🫶

Today we had the huge honor of hosting our amazing team from Natalie Couper Dance Academy, who took part in Word Cup dance competitions in Dublin.
As you know, we are sponsors of one of the girls named Kornelia.

Today all the finalists came to visit us and we spent such a wonderful time together.
We had the chance to meet all the finalists 🥰
