When I took over The Black Faced Sheep in 2023, winning industry awards was the last thing on my radar. I was more interested in getting to know our customers and ensuring that we had baked enough cake & focaccia to see us through the day! But three years on and after a great deal of passion and hard work, we are finalists for two awards for 2026, and we are delighted.

The first finalist nomination is the prestigious Scottish Thistle Awards, which recognises excellence in Scottish hospitality. What an honour to be finalists in the "Best Eating Experience" category alongside The Clunie Dining Room at The Fife Arms and The Skylark Brasserie at The Marcliffe Hotel. This is awarded by a panel of judges late September.

The second finalist nomination is The Heart of the High Street Awards, an Aberdeen City & Shire initiative. As a community driven business, The Black Faced Sheep has been nominated for the "Loves Local Ambassador" category.

We are OPEN all day GAMES DAY😋 10-4.30pm

Set your day up perfectly and include a visit to The Sheep🐑 🥂 🍾

Here are some food ideas for the PERFECT Games Day:

1. 🐑 PRE GAMES BREAKFAST - Come past for a very delicious (and nutritious) breakfast to set you up for the day! Then walk in with the Pipe Bands as they enter the pavilion. 🥁

2. 🐑 LUNCH - join the others who enjoy a little break from the Games and have a relaxing lunch @ The Sheep (Quiche or seafood platter with a glass of wine or sparkling, Darling!?). Contact us if you would like to reserve a table.

3. 🐑 AFTERNOON CAKE and COFFEE anyone? 🍰

4. 🐑 FOOD TO GO, so so easy. Home made, tasty and fresh. Yum😋

We’re always saying how lucky and grateful we are to live in such a beautiful part of the world. Hills, rivers and an abundance of pretty walks to suit everyone. A particular favourite is a low level circular route, a stones throw from the BFS 🐑

Starting across the main road, opposite Mackinnons Solicitors, on to the very pretty Castle road, with babbling burn running alongside, onto open green space and views of the hills, then on to the Tarland Road. Keep left and head back towards the village. (Or turn down at the railway line for a quieter meander back).

Accessible to prams and wheelchair and takes approximately 30-40 minutes. And of course there’s always a treat waiting for you at the Sheep!!☕️

HUGE thank you to the Aboyne Tennis Club for awarding us 1st place🥇in the window styling competition!! Yippee 🙌🏼!! We are over the moon!  

I would like to thank The Sheep Team who completely got behind the fun, we’ve had a hoot💕! A special mention goes to Jess B, Caragh W and Lily R for their amazing contribution.

This engaging competition not only celebrated the 100th birthday of the Tennis Club 🎾, but it brought a sense of community and camaraderie to the village. Thank you to all involved!

Young artists @ The Sheep!

The Black Faced Sheep has been thrilled to present an exhibition of budding young artists this week, marking the end of their year learning and course work.

We were delighted to host a gallery opening and award ceremony for these art students and their parents, having completed an art course, curated and run by local
Aboyne artist Stephanie Vandem.
The completed work on display @ The Sheep illustrates the progression of students in learning foundation stages, to advanced figure sketching. A marvellous display of work!

Congratulations to Stephanie and her students for putting this exhibition together @ The Black Faced Sheep 🐑
