Summer series!

22. Couldn’t have a favourites series without this little gem! I have literally no idea what possessed me to make a cake in this style….except maybe that I was asked specifically to make bluebells and I could think of no other way of doing it!

I love how different it is to most of my other work and not sure I’d ever do one like it again. Although even as I’m sitting here typing I’m thinking I could make a pretty awesome foxgloves cake using the same technique…..any takers?!

Summer series!

21: Love a mini bouquet and this one is no exception. I know this was made for a wedding, literally have no idea what the brief was but I think the colour combinations are so pleasing.

I have certainly learned over the course of this series that it’s colour that makes or breaks a cake for me. Choosing the right colours and pairing them successfully is so important in any art form. I’m actually planning a colour theory class, possibly to roll out at home or at the Cake College or maybe even online!! Watch this space!

20: One of my favourite cake stories, if not cakes!

This one was made for one of life’s best people. I’d like to say her husband commissioned me to make it but that would be a big fat fib - what actually happened was I guessed he may have been too busy running the building industry to organise anything for her special birthday so I offered to make something. We knew what flavour she would would like but had no idea on design.

So…..I ran a little poll on my page with nine cakes with different designs to choose from - I was 100% confident she would comment as she always does, and she did not disappoint! And this cake was made in the design that she had chosen as her favourite!

Summer series!

19. Appropriately a 19 cupcake bouquet. Definitely my favourite size to make….if you can eat this much cake they make such a great centrepiece for a special celebration.

No idea when or why I made this one but the colour combination is one I come back to time and again - the pop of vivid blue; the dark accent in the cream flowers; the dusky pink roses. 😘

18. I think this is my all time favourite of these tiered cake/cupcake set ups. I got such a clean finish on the cake, the colours are beautiful and, for a little added joy, it was to celebrate not a wedding, but a 60th wedding anniversary. As I’m sure I’ve said before, any old fool can get married but it takes a special kind of fool to stay married for 60 years!! 🥰🥰🥰

(Disclaimer: none of my wonderful customers are fools, I think they are all eminently sensible for buying my cakes!)

17. Definitely one of my favourite cutting cakes - love the colours, love the flowers. That’s it. No notes.

16. A much later wildflower cake than the one I published earlier in this series and I think this one is more refined. As with so many things in life I’d never hurts to pause and look back to see how far you’ve come.

I make so many of these two digit cakes - they have definitely overtaken bouquets as my best seller.

Summer Series!

15. Another recent bake and I’m slightly surprised that this made it onto my favourites list as it’s a semi-naked finish which I’m not usually a fan of and also I’m not in love with the slightly wobbly writing on the numbers. But…..I think the overall design is a classic and the cake peeping through really adds to the vintage feeling. And I can forgive myself the slight wobble to the numbers as I was piping this in 38 degree heat and the buttercream was turning to liquid as I piped them on!

14. Another of my favourite bouquets - can’t remember any back story for this one, although I do know it’s the original design of one that I have been asked to recreate lots of times.

I’m no longer above to do an exact replication though as the food colour - regal purple - I used to make the glorious bright purple in this arrangement is no longer licensed as being food safe in this country. It’s such a shame as it’s a colour that just can’t be replicated and it’s still licensed elsewhere in the world. AND I’d literally just bought a massive bottle of it when I found out! 😂😡

Summer series!

13. I’m pretty sure if the recipient of this cake sees it on her feed she will comment on this post because I know she loved it as much as I did. Another of those designs where it just all goes right. I’d been seen sent some inspo picture which, lovely as they were, weren’t really having the desired effect of inspiring me. As a result I’d left it until the last minute to decorate and it came to the point where I just had to get something, anything on the cakes!

I started with the white dahlias. Then, because I never miss an opportunity to add some peonies to a cake I whacked some of those on as well. When I looked back at the pictures, I saw those flat peach flowers - I think they are a sort of dahlia too - and the addition of those instantly lifted the design. The hint of blue came directly from the pictures and I filled the gaps with flowers piped with my favourite Russian nozzle.

I would change nothing about this cake, and it’s not very often I say that!
