We are hiring.
Café Assistant/Barista

The role requires the delivery of excellent customer service, barista and kitchen porter work within a busy Café. Till/serving experience, Café experience, and barista training is highly desirable. Catering experience, First Aid at Work and/or Welsh language would be an advantage but not essential.

Car owner highly desirable due to the limited frequency of public transport to our location.

This is predominantly a seasonal position; significant hours guaranteed during the school holidays with possible work outside of these times. The Red Kite Cafe and The Silver Mountain Experience are open 7 days a week during much of its holiday season therefore you will be required to work some weekends and bank holidays.

Earlier this month we mentioned that this is an important year for us... in 2024 we celebrate 50 years since our mine first opened to visitors as a Mining Museum!

Llywernog Silver-Lead Mine dates back over 250 years, The site closed in 1910 and was abandoned for many years leaving the site and it's historic buildings in a very dilapidated state. In 1973 the Harvey family took ownership of the site and restored buildings such as the Count House (pictured) and re-opened the site to the public only a year later in 1974. The next forty years saw the huge undertaking of digging out two underground workings, restoring mine machinery and collecting valuable mining artefacts from all over Mid Wales and beyond, all to help tell the incredible story of metal mining in Mid Wales. Without the commitment and incredible hard work of those involved, this unique historic mine site may not have been safe-guarded and conserved for the public to visit today.

Throughout 2024 we will be posting photos from the 1970s onwards in recognition of all of the incredible work that the Harvey Family & all those who laboured with them undertook to conserve Llywernog Silver-Lead Mine for future generations.

Our neighbouring sister café Red Kite at Ponterwyd Cafe and Grill is open 6 days a week, serving delicious breakfasts & warming meals😋

If you want coffee & cake after 3pm you can pop over to us, we are open Tuesdays-Thursdays and on the Weekends
