Well cellar work seems to take hours in this heat and I’m happy down there at 12 degrees, only nuisance is apparently I have to be upstairs by 12noon…..

The near empty plate is a terrible job of tasting the lovely Quiches that Lewis has made for the special today Quiche Lorraine and a broccoli and Stilton both served hot or cold and with chips and salad £14, I know it’s hot but we are doing the midweek roast Beef with all the trimmings £14.50

The spritz thing is going mad we now do Aperol, Campari, limoncello & a Hugo I think for now that’s enough but hey ho you never know….😂😂

Well as you must probably know it’s quite warm today and hopefully it will be hot enough later on, the trick today is to take lots of hydration breaks like the footballer’s so 22.5 minutes work then boom a Aspall’s cyder in the Grofield beautiful beer garden then back to work for another 22.5 minutes work and boom another Aspall’s, obviously you can replace the Aspall’s with anything really like a nice refreshing beer shandy or wait a minute…… a lush limoncello spritzer with lashings of ice.
By full time you should be well and truly be in a better place than when you started 🤷‍♂️😂🤷‍♂️ and perhaps take the rest of the day off.

Today we are cooking 12-3pm with the bar staying open till late, specials are homemade Quiche Lorraine served with a full salad or 1/2 chips and salad £14 secondly we have beef madras served with Basmati rice and a poppadom £16 and lastly the stunning warm soy glazed Salmon salad with sesame £17. Well it’s Thursday and the midweek roast is back and it’s sold out. Andrew has been busy with new tables and chairs replacing the old ones that had seen better days, a bit like himself 😂🙈😂.

Father’s Day is nearly here and unfortunately we are very nearly full- we do have a few of tables for 2 left.

Now the rain has stopped and the sun is trying its best to break through I feel today is going to improve drastically, beer garden on the ready. Today’s specials are homemade chicken and leek pie served with chips and peas £16.00 next up Beavans family butchers faggots wrapped in bacon served with chips, mushy peas and onion gravy £13.50.

Please don’t forget tomorrow we reintroduce our Thursday roast beef served with all the trimmings and lashings of real gravy, there is a limited amount of these but you can preorder so if you wanted at 6pm would not be a problem but if you don’t order it when it’s gone it’s gone😂😂. Well after 30 years or more of trying they’ve finally gone and won the Sunday night quiz absolutely amazing not sure if it’s life changing but a win is a win 🥇 and what will interesting is will they comeback next week to defend their title 😂🙈😂.

Well the temperature is quietly rising and as I write this the sun is trying desperately to burn the rain clouds away🤞🤞 and the Grofield’s garden is looking lush, but if it’s a tad too cold the garden room is lovely and cosy and the music is on.

Specials today are Beavan Family Butchers faggots with chips, mushy peas & onion gravy £13.50 and next up tandoori chicken breast served mint yogurt and either basmati rice and salad or 1/2 & 1/2 £16

Next week the midweek roast reappears as we have taken on a new part time chef to help Lewis

The four double cheeseburgers was a last order of the day, that’s a way to break a chef’s heart 😂🙈😂.

Today’s specials are homemade lamb & mint burger with tzatziki, chips and either salad, slaw or onion rings £17, next up homemade chicken & leek pie served with chips and peas £16.50.

We are cooking today 12-3pm then 5-8pm Friday and Saturday it’s 12-8pm and Sunday is as per normal Sunday it’s 12-4pm

Real ales today are Sharps Doom bar and Exmoor ale we are hoping for better weather for our two Spritz promotion with Aperol & St Germain(elderflower) £8

Blooming eck these Sundays come around quick first up it’s lunch and Lewis is busy preparing our traditional offerings of local beef, lamb and chicken I’m might get to taste the gravy shortly (think I’m the only person who drinks gravy from a mug😂) we also do a selection from our normal menu as well.

The weather here in Abergavenny today is far better than expected so I think the garden might be in use after all 😂😂 first sitting we have two tables and second sitting today we have 4 tables available the garden room we have one available early and one later.

Tonight it’s quiz night it starts at 8.30 everyone is welcome - not too hard and lots of laughs (mostly at my expense 🙈😂🙈) Linda my knees aren’t knobbly at all 😂🙈😂 this picture needs readdressing……….

Just a little fun😂🙈😂we had a call last night for a table on Christmas Day (unfortunately we don’t open on Christmas Day) thinking about raising a little extra for Lewis’s & Amy’s wedding I’m thinking of sending the grandchildren to their beds and we would have 3 spaces on the big table then a 4 on the breakfast bar table £499 per head and the breakfast bar £389 also you must help with the cleaning 😂🙈😂

Anyway we’ve been doing some building work and I’ve got half a bag of plaster and a door going for free (hate wasting things) just need picking up also we have approximately 20 old bricks and some pieces of stone ideal for a rockery.

I love this time of the year in the garden, the allium’s and wisteria have been and gone and now it’s the turn of the jasmine and my personal favourite the agapanthus.
Sorry we had to turn away so many people last night (we had more people booked in last night than Saturday) to say we got caught out was an understatement 🙈😂🙈.
Today the weather is cooler and we are cooking 12-3 then 5-8pm I’m pretty sure it’s not going to be as busy as last night but to be sure of a table please book one by calling us on 858939.
Today’s specials are Thai style salmon & haddock fishcakes served with coleslaw, sweet chilli mayonnaise and either chips or salad £16.50, tonight we will also have chicken & leek pie served with chips and peas £16.50.

Ssssshhh don’t tell anyone but it’s a bank holiday weekend and the weather is……..AMAZING and it’s the steam rally (normally raining all weekend) the first rose is out and there’s dozens about to bloom.The garden is looking pretty good if I say so myself😂😂.

The specials today are chicken Parmigiana, breaded chicken breast topped with tomato sauce & melted cheese with chips and salad £16.50, next up Thai-style salmon & haddock fishcakes with Asian slaw, sweet chilli mayonnaise & either chips or salad £16.50.

Tables are at a premium today as per normal we only book so many for food then the rest are left on a first come first serve basis for either drinks or food, and don’t forget it’s table service in the garden which literally means you sit down and we do the rest (apart from you pay😂😂).

To book a table please call Andrew on 01873 858939 using messenger today might not be the best option as we anticipate that we will be pretty busy 😂🤞😂.
