Fitness Trail Update:

Part one of the upgrade is almost complete. The new path at the end of the trail has been installed and has already been tried and tested during the Saturday morning FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun.

A huge difference to the car park also which will be hugely neneficial on busy days.

Please note Tayside Contracts are working on tarring the entrance to the Car Park tomorrow so the gates will be closed tomorrow and will reopen on Wednesday. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš˜๐Ÿ”’๐Ÿ”’

Next up will be two new bridges which we will be hoping be ready for SSE Renewables visiting us on Saturday 19th September when the SSE team will be joining us on the parkrun.

Watch out for the names of the bridges we have chosen. The Workshop, Aberfeldy working on these for us just now.......๐ŸŒ‰๐ŸŒ‰

Fitness Trail Update:

and have been hard at it again this week as the make over at the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun is starting to take shape.

Several more tonnes of material has been dropped off this week as we try to get the car park completed for this weekend Aberfeldy Show and Highland Games.

You will also see the final section the trail which often floods has been raised by almost 2 feet. Drainage installed also which will hopefully prevent this area suffering from the winter rainfall.

Big thanks to Murray and # Mike Henderson who have cut and bailed the grass at the muster area at the start/finish of the trail.

Fitness Trail Update:

Gordy and Colin have been working hard over the last couple of days doing the initial prep work on extending the car park and improving the final bend of the trail, which regularly suffers from flooding in the winter.

Will keep you updated as the week progresses.

We will hopefully have a big chunk of the work completed this week to ensure Saturday FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun goes ahead as normal. The follwing week should see us complete the car park and the bridges in time for the Aberfeldy Show and Highland Games

Fitness Trail.

A reminder before we start on construction to the Car Park and Trail at the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun next week that we are looking for some volunteers to help with a bit of gardening before we get started......๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒท๐Ÿชป

The Upper Tay Paths Group are organising a work party on 24 July (tomorrow) between 9 and 11am to remove Himalayan balsam from the Trail. If youโ€™re not aware, Himalayan balsam is an invasive non-native plant that crowds out native wildflowers and reduces biodiversity. It also leaves riverbanks bare over winter, increasing the risk of soil erosion. Itโ€™s easy to remove by hand but needs community effort because thereโ€™s lots of it!

If you can lend a hand tomorrow it would be much appreciated....๐Ÿ€๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿงก

๐ŸŽ‰ ** Fitness Trail Announcement** ๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ“ข

We are absolutely delighted to announce that we have been successful in securing a **ยฃ49,481 grant from SSE Renewables** to carry out major improvements to the popular ** Fitness Trail**.

A huge thank you to SSE Renewables for their continued support of this fantastic community asset.

The trail is enjoyed throughout the year by both locals and visitors, with the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrunn every Saturday morning proving to be a tremendous success.

The grant will fund improvements in three key areas:

๐Ÿš— **1. Car Park Improvements**
Our car park regularly reaches full capacity on Saturday mornings and can become challenging during the winter months. It will be upgraded to provide safer, easier access for everyone. These improvements will also be a huge benefit for events in the area, in particular the Aberfeldy Show and Highland Games.

๐ŸŒ‰ **2. Bridge Replacements**
Two of the bridges along the route have reached the end of their lifespan and will be replaced, making them safer and more enjoyable for both walkers and runners.

๐Ÿƒ **3. Route Improvements**
The section of the trail near the finish line, which is prone to flooding during the winter, will be resurfaced with hardcore. This should significantly improve drainage and help reduce the number of parkrun cancellations during the wetter months.

๐Ÿšœ **Work is due to begin on Monday, 27th July**, and we'll keep everyone updated as the project progresses.

# # # ๐ŸŒฟ Community Help Needed This Friday!

Before work gets underway, the Upper Tay Paths Group is looking for a few volunteers to help remove Himalayan balsam from the trail.

Sheila Wilson says:

> *"I am organising a work party on Friday 24th July to remove Himalayan balsam from the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun route. Himalayan balsam is an invasive non-native plant that crowds out native wildflowers, reduces biodiversity and leaves riverbanks vulnerable to erosion over winter. It's easy to remove by hand but takes a community effort because there's so much of it!"*

If you have a couple of spare hours between **9:00am and 11:00am this Friday**, we'd love to see you there. Please meet at the **FeldyRoo Fitness Trail Car Park** and help us prepare the trail ahead of these exciting improvements.

Every pair of hands makes a difference! ๐Ÿ’š

Thank you once again to Aberfeldy Golf Club **SSE Renewables**, the **Upper Tay Paths Group**, our volunteers, and everyone who continues to support the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail.

**Exciting times ahead โ€“ we'll keep you updated next week with our progress!** ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

"Weโ€™re thrilled to celebrate a major milestone, that SSE Renewables has now invested ยฃ100 million in communities across the UK and Ireland!

Weโ€™re especially proud to be part of this journey, because the Feldy-Roo project was made possible with support from the Griffin and Calliacher Community Fund.

Through this funding, alongside the incredible volunteer support from local businesses and community, we were able to deliver over 50,000 free meals to shielding residents during the COVID pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

Since then support from Renewables enabled us to create the popular Fitness Trail on the other side of River Tay from the Golf Course. This has proven hugely popular with local residents and tourists. With the introduction of the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun earlier this year, Aberfeldy now has its own Saturday morning parkrun which is attracting over 100 runner and volunteres every weekend. support has helped create a huge asset through this for Aberfeldy.

A huge thank you to for their support in making an impact in our community.

So the "Run for Rachel" event has come and gone but the legacy of the event will remain for a long time.

Amazing community spirit and togetherness shone through with so many locals from different generations taking part in one way or another.

Importantly the incredible amount of money raised is going to a fantastic cause in Beat (Eating Disorders). This will make a real impact, helping the chairty provide support for others suffering from the illness.

I hope Rach would approve, I am pretty sure she would....

The current total, including Gift Aid, stands at a staggering ยฃ21,434.93. Well done everyone. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Please read on as I will leave with 2 messages, the first from Davie Bywater and the second from Beat CEO Vanssa Longley:

1.
โ€œIโ€™m overwhelmed with gratitude to every single person who contributed to the Run for Rachel. Sincere thanks to those who ran, walked, donated or simply showed up. Huge thanks also to all the volunteers and local businesses who helped support us and made the Run for Rachel such a successful event. In honour of my beautiful daughter Rachel, youโ€™ve turned grief into action, and heartbreak into hope. Your generosity is not just raising vital funds for eating disorder supportโ€” itโ€™s keeping Rachelโ€™s spirit alive in the most powerful way. From the bottom of my heart, thank you"

Dave Bywater

2. Dear Dave and Calum,

I wanted to reach out personally to express my deep gratitude for the extraordinary amount raised in Rachelโ€™s memory through the event held at the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail.
I was deeply moved to hear about the scale of the communityโ€™s support โ€“ 270 runners came together in a true show of unity and remembrance. Itโ€™s a powerful tribute to Rachel, and itโ€™s clear how deeply loved and missed she is by so many.
At Beat, weโ€™re honoured that you chose to support our work. To see over ยฃ16,800 raised โ€“ and more still coming in โ€“ is extraordinary, and a testament to your determination and the strength of your community. You have achieved so much - all during an incredibly difficult time for your family. Please know that weโ€™re here to stand alongside you, and to ensure Rachelโ€™s story makes a lasting difference for others affected by eating disorders. As Natasha Drummond said in her tribute on your fundraising page, we want to use the gifts raised in Rachel's memory to be there for so many more people struggling with an eating disorder. Please do pass on our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the event โ€“ from the runners and volunteers to the local businesses and community members who helped make it such a success. Iโ€™ve seen some of the photos from the day on the Feldy-Roo page and it looked incredibly special.
Warmest wishes,
Vanessa

Well we asked the question, could our community get behind the "Run for Rachel" event yesterday?

Boy did Aberfeldy deliver. ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ‘

An incredible 270 runners took part at the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun yesterday. With Judy Ewer's team of course marshals and volunteers it took the total number of participants yesterday close to a staggering 300 people.

One of those particpants was our First Minister John Swinney MSP. A great gesture from John to give up his time from his own very busy schedule to support the family and the event. Hopefully he didn't leave Mr Trump waiting too long ...........

Thankfully the weather stayed dry and with a supply of water, oranges and Wasted Degrees ales, runners enjoyed a few refreshments after their exertions.

Then on to the The Black Watch Inn and Sports Bar with live music by and followed by Robby Mercer on the wheels of steel. ๐ŸŽ™๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽธ

A fantastic community day in memory of Rachel Bywater. A tragedy that clearly hit the town hard. Yesterday was heartening to see the community come togethe,r not only to support Rachel's family but also to raise money for Beat (eating disorders).

Now we set an ambitious target of raising ยฃ10,000 for the charity. Now for the results (so far).......

With 's Just Giving Page at over ยฃ8500 by the time of writing, when we add on the money raised in cash donations and sponsorship forms from yesterday the grand total now stands, incredibly at over ยฃ16,500 raised.

Aberfeldy we smashed it, well done to everyone who took part, donated or supported the event. Was a brilliant day and there is no doubt we did Rachel proud. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

With a few sponsoship forms still to come in. You can drop off them at the Schiehallion Hotel with Julie Roy. And there is still the opportunity to donate online through the Just Giving Page
https://www.justgiving.com/page/runforrachel?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL

Are we being greedy if we think we could now double the initial target and get to ยฃ20,000.............now that would be some achievement.

Thanks again to everyone for yesterday and thanks to Iain Struthers for his brilliant photos. Enjoy.....

"Run for Rachel".............. the day has arrived and weather holding up.

1pm at the FeldyRoo Fitness Trail parkrun, but please try and arrive a bit earlier so we can get some group photos done by Iain Struthers Photography. ๐ŸŽฅ๐ŸŽฅ

Good luck everyone taking part today. Those that have sponsorship forms or wish to make donations we will collect at the Fitness Trail. You can also donate online on the Just Giving Page.

Hoping to break the ยฃ10k barrier today in order to raise funds for Beat (Eating Disorders) ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿงก๐Ÿงก

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿš— Parking will be limited so if you are local please saves spaces for people who are travelling today to take part.

Breadalbane Academy - PKC are kindly keeping the campus open for those wishing to take a shower after the run.

Big thanks to Wasted Degrees and Co-op for donating refreshments for the course, we are currently dispersing them around tyhe course in big ice buckets. We will provide bins at the start/finish point please use these for any rubbish.

๐ŸŽ™๐ŸŽค๐ŸŽธ Live music and a disco at The Black Watch Inn and Sports Bar from 3pm, there will be donation buckets at the pubs all day. Thanks to and and Robby Mercer for the entertainment.

All the best to everyone today and thanks for all taking part.

Lets's do this for Rach........๐Ÿงก๐Ÿงก๐Ÿงก
