WEEKEND OPENING HOURS

Thanks to those who made it down for lunch today - customers and our unwavering team.

The kitchen is now closed for today but we'll back again for lunch service tomorrow (closed the evening), sittings 12pm 'til 2:30pm.

Saturday we are looking to open from midday through to 7:30pm for reservations.

If it is safe for you to do so and you fancy getting out for a bit, you are more than welcome to come and make use of our heating along with a hearty lasagna to warm your soul.

Reservations can be made online and we'd appreciate you do so in order for us to monitor demand and adjust staffing levels and opening hours to suit.

EARLY CHRISTMAS

Christmas came early here at Poldino’s with the return of our missing watercolour! Gratefully returned to us last Thursday.

Thanks to all for sharing and helping make sure it was seen and ultimately taken home.

For us, this is all that matters. Sincere apologies were made, a handshake, a cuddle and all is forgiven. We ask that if you are sharing or leaving a comment that we focus on the positives. ‘tis the season of good will after all!

Speaking of which, we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Merry Christmas to you and yours from all the team here at Poldino’s. We have had a great season sharing the festivities with our guests.

Last sitting tomorrow at 6:30pm and then we are closed until Saturday 27th. Open again Monday 29th to Hogmanay, then from Saturday 3rd our normal business hours resume.

SOMETHING MISSING

The empty space on the left should have a watercolour hanging from it but sadly, for whatever reason, it has been removed from the spot it has hung since it was gifted to us and we have no idea who has taken it or where it is now – but we miss it.

It is a hand drawn watercolour of Little Belmont Street facing east on a clear day, with Ma’s and MacBeans on the left, Poldino’s on the right and the Mither Kirk rising above the trees in the background. The clock on the tower shows quarter past twelve and on the cobbles, a man in a waiter’s uniform can be seen helping another gentleman into our restaurant.

It was painted and gifted to us by a friend and longstanding customer who has been coming to the restaurant every week for the last 50 plus years, always sitting at the same circular table right underneath these pieces. It holds incredible sentimental value to us and unfortunately cannot be replaced. We would really like it back please.

However it came to be that it was removed, we just want it back. If you have it, or know who does and you see this, please just organise to return it to us. You can even leave it in a safe place somewhere, leave a note of this through our door and we’ll retrieve it.

LA CUCINA POVERA

For the winter edition of Aberdeen Restaurant Week this year we will be serving up a special menu for the event, ‘La Cucina Povera’. With dishes not normally found our menu, we hope to offer something a little different, with a focus on our humble beginnings in life.

Literally meaning ‘the poor kitchen’, we are going back to our roots and celebrating the ingenuity of recipes past down by those before us, creating plates of hearty nutritious food using the limited ingredients available to them, minimizing waste, maximizing flavour.

All our dishes are prepared in house and our team work very hard to ensure we source the finest possible ingredients, locally and from all over Italy – bringing a genuine taste of home to our guests.

Menu available from Tuesday 25th February until Saturday 8th March. The menu can be found on our website under the Restaurant Menus tab.

A selection of cured meats, grilled & roasted vegatables, mozzarella, bread basket and crostini with spreads. Included as an option on our 'Tra Amici' menu as part of Aberdeen Restaurant Week for September 24.

A menu put together hoping to conjure up feelings of sitting out in the evening sun sharing food and enjoying time with friends and family. A choice of generous sharing platters to start, a classic Roman style sharing pizza to follow and then some sweets (of course). You’ll see some smaller plates that can be added to your meal too.

LAZIO - SALTIMBOCCA ALLA ROMANA

Back to Rome for the last classic dish of our ARW menu. Saltimbocca alla Romana.

Saltimbocca is more often made using veal but it isn't uncommon to see other meats used and we've opted for pork fillet this time around. Topped with prosciutto crudo and sage, cooked in a bit of this with a bit of that. This rustic classic lives up to its literal translation, 'jump in the mouth'.

Served with another Roman specialty for this time of year, Carciofi alla Romana. Artichoke season in Rome starts about now and the two most popular ways these plants are enjoyed, Carciofi alla giudea - fried - or like we have here, Carciofi alla Romana, packed with herbs and slowly braised making them soft and delicious.

CAMPANIA - CUOPPO DI MARE

Street food from the Amalfi coast. From Campania we have Cuoppo di Mare 🎉

'Il Cuoppo' is the cone you receive, with your fried jewels inside, so that you carry it away and enjoy somewhere al fresco - but obviously not in the North East of Scotland on a chilly winters day so we are serving it plated to enjoy in our cosy restaurant.

There are three variations of the cuoppo; from the sea, from land and a sweet cone. For our menu we have gone with the sea (with some veg thrown in). Fried calamari, king prawns, monkfish & courgette. Served with fries and garlic mayo.

Sweets for our ARW menu. From Tuscany we have our Zuccotto, a chilled dessert cake. Alchermes soaked sponge with ricotta cream filling and chocolate chips. From Veneto we have Pera al Vino rosso. Red wine poached pear with spices. Cream of mascarpone. Almond biscuit crumb.

EMILIA-ROMAGNA - CRUDO, PARMIGIANO, ACETO BALSAMICO, GNOCCO FRITTO

From Emilia-Romagna we have not so much of a traditional dish but a plate that consists of products specific to this region. Parma ham, parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar and the lesser know gnocco fritto - essentially a savoury dough which, when fried, puff up into little pillows leaving space inside to fill with with cold cuts and cheese 😗👌

Plates from the Islands - from Sicily we have Timballo di Melanzane. A kind of pasta cake with is wrapped up in aubergine slices and baked. Just south of that, from the Island of Pantelleria, Insalata Pantesca. A salad of potato, tomato, olives, red onion, capers & oregano.
