It's a rather little known museum, that dives into Paris during WWII, focusing particularly on the Liberation.

You'll discover the incredible stories of two key figures: Jean Moulin and General Leclerc, who played pivotal roles in the fight against occupation. The museum's location is no coincidence—it’s situated right above the very bunkers used as hideouts during that time, and you even can visit them.

We wanted to attend, but we had a lot to do yesterday. Am going to search for pix online.

This morning, hundreds of dachshunds marched down the Champs-Élysées for the Paris Sausage Walk, one of the cutest charity events in the city.

It was the 7th edition of the walk, which started in 2018. Until now, it always took place along the Seine, near the Eiffel Tower. This year, the organizers teamed up with the Champs-Élysées committee and moved it to the most famous avenue in Paris. The timing was perfect. On the first Sunday of every month, the Champs-Élysées is closed to cars.

Owners gathered at the top of the avenue, right by the Arc de Triomphe, and the walk started at 11 a.m. The route was about 0.9 mile (1.4 kilometers) long. Every kind of dachshund was welcome: long-haired, short-haired, wire-haired, from standard size down to the tiniest ones. Some even showed up in a beret, like this one.

The event is free, and it is all about a good cause. It supports Teckels Sans Doux Foyer, a French rescue group that has taken in abandoned and mistreated dachshunds for more than 19 years. "Teckel" is the French word for dachshund, and the group's name means "dachshunds without a sweet home." The date was no accident either. October 4 is World Animal Day.

The idea came from London, which inspired Paris with its own sausage walk.

Hidden behind a discreet facade on the busy Champs-Élysées is a secret, multi-million dollar mansion with a staircase made entirely of glowing yellow onyx.

Construction on the Hôtel de la Païva began in 1856 for Esther Lachmann, better known as La Païva, one of the most famous courtesans in 19th-century Paris. According to a story told about her, she was once thrown from a carriage onto the Champs-Élysées and vowed that one day she would build herself a magnificent home on the very same avenue.

She eventually did, with the fortune of her enormously wealthy husband helping finance a mansion where almost no expense was spared. At its center is this sweeping grand staircase, one of the most remarkable features of the entire house.

Rather than ordinary marble, the staircase was made from rare yellow Algerian onyx. The stone is slightly translucent, which helps create the warm, luminous appearance you can see here.

The staircase quickly became a symbol of La Païva’s extravagant reputation, even inspiring a clever joke from playwright François Ponsard. His witty insult played on the double meaning of the French word degrés, which can refer both to the steps of a staircase and to degrees of vice.

Even today, the staircase makes quite an impression, looking every bit as jaw-dropping as its creator intended. If you want to visit, guided tours are offered 1-2 times a month, and need to be reserved well in advance.

Hundreds of dachshunds will take over the Champs-Élysées this Sunday for the Paris Sausage Walk.

The event started in 2018 and is now in its seventh year. The first six walks followed the banks of the Seine near the Eiffel Tower. This time, the dogs get the most famous avenue in Paris, closed to cars for the occasion.

The route is short, about 0.9 miles (1.4 kilometers). The parade starts at the top of the avenue near the Arc de Triomphe, walks down to the Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées, then turns around and heads back up. Owners gather from 10 a.m., and the walk runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It's free, and you don't need a dog to watch.

The idea came from London, which has its own Sausage Walk. In Paris, it's also a charity event. Money raised goes to Teckels Sans Doux Foyer, a rescue group that has taken in, treated, and rehomed abandoned dachshunds for almost 20 years. "Teckel" is the French word for dachshund, and the group's name is a little French pun on the word for "homeless."

The date was not chosen at random. October 4 is World Animal Day, and it's also the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
