Where Le Relais de Chambord now stands once rose the Hôtel du Grand Saint Michel.
It all began in 1682, under Louis XIV, with the construction of the estate's royal stables. In the 18th century, the site became a coaching inn for travellers crossing the region, before turning, in 1850, into a proper hotel.
For more than a century, the Hôtel du Grand Saint Michel welcomed passing travellers and guests of the presidential hunts, a quiet witness to the history unfolding just behind its windows, facing the château.
In 2018, under the signature of architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the place was reborn. The Hôtel du Grand Saint Michel became Le Relais de Chambord, keeping its soul intact, its historic name carried on today through our restaurant, Le Grand Saint Michel.
A story spanning more than three centuries, between heritage and renewal, that we are proud to keep writing.
