After several months of running this place in order to share my passions for books, tea, coffee, cakes, English and French cultures, it's time for me to turn the page. The obvious figures and caution about the future have led me to close La Book'théière. I took risks, and sometimes you have to know when to stop. I am refocusing on RécréAnglais at home, to which I will devote a future post on my dedicated page.
However, I have no regrets about this adventure. I have experienced magical moments in this place thanks to you, customers and visitors: poetry recitals, improvised theater plays, artists at work, secret messages, children creating while their parents chat, readers of all ages, writing workshops... A place vibrant with shared emotions over drinks and cookies.
More than just a business, this bookshop and tea room has been a refuge, a meeting place, a warm and curious space, brought to life thanks to you. Thank you for your loyalty, your encouragement, your discussions, your smiles, and your humanity.
I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to those who have supported me over the past few weeks, particularly through the fundraising campaign. Your generosity will help me to cover the remaining costs and close this chapter with greater peace of mind. This gesture will remain engraved in my memory as a tremendous show of solidarity. Before closing doors for good, I would like to say goodbye to you on the last day of business, Saturday, December 27, 2025. One last cup of tea, one last page, one last conversation but together.
It will also be an opportunity to (re)discover the artist Kevin Jaby, who will be present with his paintings of writers.
Thank you for everything. This story is coming to an end, but what we have shared will remain with us for a long time to come. To conclude, I would like to quote Marguerite Yourcenar, who gave me this mantra that I currently rely on: “We must not mourn what is no longer, but rejoice in what has been.”
Happy holidays !
