[Week 39- Lunch]
We have new face joining our kitchen from Assam region, North East India.
India is vast and diverse. People’s identities are strongly connected with regional foods - our chef of the week Kazu tells us.
If you have been to our place to taste the food of Anaya, who has been presenting West Coast and Southern style of cooking, you’ll be treated with a fresh surprise this week.
In a little mountainous corner with geographical and climate features closer to the humid South East Asian highland, Kazu’s “thali” meals features bamboo shoots, ginger, and black sesame. Instead of meat, which is preserved by smoking and used often in cooking in the region, Kazu adopted tofu in one of his dishes.
Come discover another batch of Indian cooking this week! Lunch comes with either filter coffee or brilliant, sweet, floral cup of Assam tea to pair with🫶
Clear ginger broth
Dahl - toasted Mung beans and grated coconut stew
Tofu and bambooshoot
Stir fried zucchini
Coriander and Mint Chutney
Jasmine rice

Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha.

For many, Ganesha represents: wisdom and learning, new beginnings, strength through difficulties, prosperity and good fortune, the removal of obstacles. That is why Ganesha is often remembered before beginning something new.
In India, Ganesh Chaturthi brings homes and communities together.
A Ganesha idol is brought home or installed in a community space with prayers and offerings.
The days are filled with:
🌺 flowers and decorations
🪔 lamps and prayers
🥥 traditional offerings
🎶 music and gatherings
🍚 festive food
🤍 family, friends and community
And, of course, Modak — Ganesha’s much-loved sweet. Modak is a traditional Maharashtrian cuisine made with rice flour, coconut and jagerry.
Modak is derived from Sanskrit word “Moda” which means happiness, and Modak means something that brings happiness.

Our friend and fellow food-culture entrepreneur Aino is back in our kitchen this week. She has 2 cultural roots - from Greece and Finland. And she has been active introducing Greek food culture to Helsinki people in the past years. You might have seen her online as aino mavrigiannakis | greek food | recipes | insider travel , talking in front of camera into a little fluffy microphone on top of colander 🤓 Her cooking features seasonal abundance, Greek traditions and food practices she learnt from both family tradition and professional kitchens.

She cannot help but offering many add-ons to turn a lunch into full Greek daytime feast. You can pick and mix what you like, to eat like Greek 🇬🇷

[Week 36 - Lunch]
End summer vegetables, probably the last chance for chilled noodle dishes, before cold weather arrives…This season makes Minaë, Japanese chef and co-founder of Zestii, crave cooking cold buckwheat noodles.
This week, though it doesn’t feel that way, it’s supposed to be warm, humid, rainy weather. come for refreshing buckwheat cold noodle salad for lunch.
We have beautiful “Nihachi soba” - 20:80 ratio of wheat flour and buckwheat flour noodles from Naraya 奈良屋 . You can buy the noodles at Hachi in Punavuori! hachi_kauppa

[Week 35- Lunch]
Japan week continues. A trip to Okinawa this week at Zestii Kitchens Kallio.
When Japanese encounter delicious food from abroad, the first thought is always “Would this be good to@eat with rice 🌾?”
Just like that, Tex-Mex style taco filling, introduced in Okinawa and landed on the bed of rice. Except, Minaë is making it meatless, with crushed härkäpapu (broad beans) from Finnish soil. Our premise sharing partner, local farm co-op OmaMaa produces fantastic crushed härkäpapu, perfectly fit for minced meat recipes to be meatless.
If you want more protein, top Taco Rice with “onsen egg” - Jiggly, runny eggs for fun!
Lunch served Monday to Friday, between 11:00-15:00, or until sold out. See you this week at Zestii Kitchens Kallio 👋

Zestii Co-founder and a kitchen bee from Japan returns to our kitchen this week with her “onigiri” rice ball meals for lunch.
2 onigiris, 2 side dishes and Miso soup has been a canvas of creativity for Minaë. It serves variety of dishes in one meal, and keeps room to reflect seasonality. Both are essentials which defines Japanese cuisine.

This week we have abundance of seasonal, local harvests from agroecological farms around Helsinki. When we have beautiful produce from local soil and people, kitchen activity becomes a humble service dedicated to worship their beauty.

Come and recharge for your day with carefully cooked, hearty comfort meals for lunch this week!
