Dear coffee people,

Thank you for another remarkable year. As a coffee roastery, we consider it a true privilege that our coffees find their place in your home, office, or café. This trust inspires us to work with care and heart—continually refining our roasting to honour nature’s beautiful fruits and to bring excitement and joy through every cup.

As the year draws to a close, we would also like to share that a portion of our revenue has been directed to Open Doors, a Christian organisation supporting our brothers and sisters in Nigeria and Congo who are affected by internal conflicts. Congo is also a country of great coffees, and we hope that one day we will have the opportunity to bring coffees from there to you. Coffee can change lives!

In 2025, we were grateful to celebrate these achievements:

Today marks our final opening day of 2025, and we want to say a heartfelt thank you.

☕️To those who’ve turned visiting us into a tradition or a quiet ritual.
☕️To everyone who trusted us with their catering orders.
☕️To those who occasionally surprised us with a visit.
☕️And to all the partners and researchers we’ve had the pleasure to collaborate with — thank you for welcoming us into your projects and plans.

You’ve made this year truly meaningful for us.

2025 also brought some special moments we’re proud of:
• Ice Cream of the Year — Ice Cream Festival
• Vegan Gelato of the Year — Ice Cream Festival
• 2nd place — Finnish Roaster Competition, Helsinki Coffee Week.

When Craftsmanship Meets Applied Learning ☕️🔭📖🤯

Our pop-up at A Bloc is not only about sharing our values and food craftsmanship. It’s also about collaboration — and this time, we’re proud to be partnering with master’s students from Aalto University’s Sustainable Entrepreneurship programme, and the Entrepreneurial Futures course where they are exploring the future, while understanding the challenges of the present, in the “experiential and place based commerce” industry!

This program explores how physical spaces — cafés, markets, and temporary concepts like pop-ups — can create memory, emotion, and connection that go far beyond the product itself. But instead of learning these ideas from slides or case studies, the students are doing something far more meaningful: They’re learning inside a real environment.

And you know what? We at Cafetoria are learning too and quite a lot!🙌🏻

We’ve officially opened our Pop-Up at A Bloc for the following 2 weeks— and already we’re meeting curious new faces asking:
“Who are you?”

Here’s our answer:

We are Cafetoria — a Nordic–Latin specialty coffee roastery with more than 20 years of roasting experience in Finland.
Our roastery lives quietly in Lohja, but our coffees travel: to our cafés in Töölö and Aalto University, to our wholesale partners… and to homes all across Finland through our e-shop. We are not but the way any franchising or big company. Despite the long year we remain a small artisan roastery and quite multicultural for being a team of 9 people coming from Latin America (Peru, Chile and Ecuador), Portugal, Estonia and Finland.

Our journey at Aalto started in March 2020 — yes, right when Covid arrived :)

Why Aalto?
Because our Töölö customers from the Business department encouraged us… and because our founder, Iván, completed his Master’s in Telecommunications here.
So in a way — coming to Aalto felt like coming home.

Five years have passed in a blink.
We’ve watched students arrive with first-day excitement — and later walk away as graduates.
We’ve tested ideas, made mistakes, learned, grown, and created.

Aalto has been a playground for innovation — and proof of that is Gelatoria, our authentic Italian gelato brand.
We began with zero gelato experience, but with decades of flavor development knowledge… and the results?
Four national gelato awards since last year. 🍨⭐️

And it doesn’t stop there.
Our empanadas, freshly baked brioche and other handmade treats are quickly becoming customer favorites.

We have been catering an increasing number of events this year, serving groups ranging from 10 to 200 people. The last catering of this year will be done this Sunday where we will be offering our delicioius feta spinach quiche and a nice dark roast organic coffee for 200 people 👌

Cultivating Excellence: The Story of Dwight Aguilar (1/2)

As part of our coffee tour in Cusco, Peru, our group of roasters and cuppers from various countries had the privilege of visiting the farm of Dwight Aguilar Masias, a renowned producer who, alongside his wife Dyana Mellado, has twice won the prestigious Cup of Excellence competition (in 2018 and 2021). A welcoming mural and beautiful garden greet visitors at their farm, Nueva Alianza, located in the district of Santa Teresa in the La Convención province. I had heard of Dwight for years but never imagined I would visit him and have one of the most enriching experiences I’ve ever had on a coffee plantation.

While Dwight oversees the cultivation in the field, Dyana manages the business operations. Together, they form a powerful team, transforming their farm into a highly successful venture, offering a variety of coffee beans.

It took me a moment to spot Dwight, who turned out to be a calm, humble, and thoughtful man, still down-to-earth despite his success and recognition. He first led us to his processing plant, where he proudly showed us his drying tables and a unique coffee variety he’s dubbed “Geybon” – a Geisha plant that thrives on his land but resembles Bourbon. Geisha coffee abounds on his farm, and it’s with this variety that Dwight won his two national championships, producing cups with caramel tones and smooth profiles that score over 90 points. Beside the solar dryers stood his depulping machines and a state-of-the-art stainless steel bioreactor, which allows him to experiment with different fermentation methods.
