🎉 5 YEARS OF GWENS! 🎉
Five years ago we opened the doors for the very first time, and somehow here we are celebrating our 5th anniversary! 🥳
A huge thank you to everyone who has been part of the journey — from those who have been with us since opening day, to everyone who has joined us along the way. Whether you’ve popped in once, become a regular, joined us for quizzes, bingo, food, drinks, celebrations or simply called in for a chat — thank you. ❤️
We genuinely couldn’t have done it without you.
And what better way to celebrate than with a couple of our favourite regular events this week…
🧠 THURSDAY – PUB QUIZ – 8PM
We reckon we’ve hosted more than 450 quizzes since we opened! 🤯 So, to mark the occasion, we’ll be adding some extra prizes for the teams this week. 🎁
Fancy something to eat first? 🍽️
The kitchen will be open 4pm–7.30pm, with the bar open until midnight.
🎱 FRIDAY – EYES DOWN – 3PM SHARP!
We’re open from 12 noon, with food served until 7.30pm.
And there might just be a few extra prizes for Eyes Down too… 🤔😉
🍴 A SPECIAL THANK YOU
There are also two very special people I want to mention who are sadly no longer with us, but who played an important part in helping steer the bar in the right direction in those early days.
Lizzie was the first chef I had, and she created the basis of the menu that I still have today. I remember saying to her once that it was a bit daunting knowing I might have to go into the kitchen and actually cook it all…
Her response?
“******* man up and get on with it!” 😂
And then, of course, there was Quizmaster John — who taught me a very important lesson about dealing with quiz teams:
“Remember, you’re right even when you’re wrong!” 😂
Two brilliant people who made a difference in those early days, and who will always be part of the bar’s story. ❤️
We’ve changed the look of the bar a little since those first days — giving it a more neutral, modern feel — and while Gwen’s photo might not be on the sign anymore, she’s still very much behind the bar! 😉
So, whether you’ve been here since Day 1 or you’ve only just discovered us, thank you for being part of our journey.

And from next week, we’re back to our normal opening days — Monday to Friday, open daily from 12 noon.
