Without large luminous signs or paraphernalia at their door, in a nineteenth century house located in Calle Cervantes de Tavernes, a small sign announces the place of the hotel and vegetarian restaurant La Casa Viva. It opened in middle of the Spanish crisis in June 2014 and despite many people thought that it can be risky not only for the time in crisis but also for the different product offered, but for Inés Ciscar and Juan Pons, its creators, it is not more than an extension of their life philosophy. "In our restaurant we serve the kind of food we ourselves consume already for a long time, it is not a business idea it is a reflection and understanding of our way of life", they say. Everything is cooked to the last detail by Ines herself.
The place where the restaurant is located on the ground floor of the house is almost magically. It has been created with their own hands with a lot of effort during eight long years. "Our hobby is the restoration of houses and furniture, and we have always been lovers of ecology and nature, and based on this, we designed and made a space renovated with green building and Feng Shui criteria. La Casa Viva elevates its clients to another dimension but Joan and Ines know very well in what century they live and try to connect with the world through its website.
Despite the uncertainty that usually is generated by the beginnings and also the tumultuous time, two years after opening their business they assure that their restaurant is now in a phase of consolidation. We cannot say that the beginning was hard, because we started very well, probably due to the originality of the business and to the curiosity of people to try new things, they explain.
They recognize that the business mixes up the romantic dream come true with financial need. "To be honest, there is also an economic component that requires us to seek for an alternative to our previous life through" they say. For now, they are doing well and are very satisfied with their restaurant.
