Pere Bujosa (Palma de Mallorca, 1992) is a Mallorcan jazz bassist and composer known for his work on double bass and for leading innovative piano‑trio projects within contemporary European jazz.
Early life and studies
• He grew up in Palma in a music‑loving family, surrounded by classical music as well as rock and blues bands at home.
• He began studying classical double bass around the age of eleven in Palma, later combining this with electric bass and modern music, playing with local bands.
• In 2012 he moved to Barcelona to study Jazz and Modern Music at the Conservatori del Liceu, working with notable musicians such as Horacio Fumero, David Mengual, Marc Miralta, Gary Willis and Llibert Fortuny.
• In 2015 he undertook an exchange at the University of North Texas, studying with renowned bassist Lynn Seaton (Count Basie Orchestra, Woody Herman).
• He later completed a master’s degree in jazz performance at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (EUJAM Master), which led him to spend time in cities like Berlin and Copenhagen.
Professional career and projects
• Bujosa has collaborated with international artists including Salvador Sobral, Ben van Gelder, Antonio Serrano and Hanna Paulsberg, and has performed in countries such as Portugal, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy and Norway.[youtube]
• As a bandleader, he first released the album “Who’s Holland” in 2017 with the Pere Bujosa Group, featuring vocalist Magalí Sare and producer David Soler.
• In 2017 he formed the Pere Bujosa Trio in Amsterdam with pianist Xavi Torres and drummer Joan Terol; the trio has appeared at festivals and venues like Menorca Jazz Festival, Alternatilla (Palma), Ibiza Jazz, Sons de Nit (Palma), Nits a la Pedrera (Barcelona), Jamboree (Barcelona) and the Blue Note in Amsterdam.
• His music often blends classic piano‑trio jazz with polyrhythmic textures, electronic elements, free improvisation and influences from rock, folk and contemporary classical music.
