🍳 Italian-Inspired Toasted Sandwich
A deliciously layered sandwich bursting with classic Italian flavors, from rich cheeses and savory meats to tangy marinated vegetables—this quick meal is a true treat!
Ingredients
For the Bread
4 slices white bread or sesame round bread, toasted
Optional: 1 clove fresh garlic, lightly brushed on the toasted bread for extra flavor
For the Cheese
4 slices provolone cheese
4 slices Swiss cheese
For the Meats
4 slices turkey ham
4 slices beef salami
4 slices beef mortadella
For the Veggies and Dressing
2 tablespoons green olives, finely chopped
2 tablespoons black olives, finely chopped
¼ cup pickled vegetables, diced
2–3 tablespoons robust olive oil
1–2 tablespoons red grape vinegar
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
Step 1: Toast the Bread
Lightly brush the bread slices with olive oil.
Toast in a pan, toaster, or oven until crisp and golden brown.
For an extra layer of flavor, rub the toasted bread lightly with a clove of fresh garlic.
Step 2: Prepare the Marinated Vegetables
Finely chop the green olives, black olives, and pickled vegetables.
In a small bowl, combine the chopped veggies with olive oil, red grape vinegar, and oregano.
Mix well to ensure the veggies are evenly coated and flavorful.
Step 3: Assemble the Sandwich
On one slice of toasted bread, layer 2 slices of provolone cheese, 2 slices of Swiss cheese, 2 slices of turkey ham, 2 slices of beef salami, and 2 slices of beef mortadella.
Spoon a generous amount of the marinated vegetable mixture over the meats and cheeses.
Step 4: Serve
Place another slice of toasted bread on top and gently press to hold the layers together.
Serve immediately while the bread is warm and the flavors are at their peak.
