Made in one country. Sold in another. Used for 5 minutes. Found on a beach 5,000 km away.
An estimated 170 trillion plastic particles are floating around our oceans, leaching chemicals, breaking down into microplastics, killing wildlife and entering the food chain.
This was all found on one of our beaches here in Fuerteventura, far from where much of it was originally produced.
The plastic pollution crisis is global. And we need to stop treating it as a litter problem and start treating it as a production problem. Reduce plastic production, ban single-use plastics, and hold producers financially responsible for the waste they create.
The solution isn’t to get better at cleaning up the mess.
It’s to stop producing the mess in the first place.
