The movement of hot oil is mesmerizing.
As the bottom of the pan heats up, the top remains cool, because it is in contact with cooler air. This creates a difference in temperature between the surface of the oil and the bottom.
Hot oil is less dense than cold oil. So the hotter oil at the bottom of the pan rises to the top, and the cooler oil at the surface replaces the hotter oil that just rose and so on.
This creates a convection current, which can be observed in the sun too.
