Sun visiting Abu Simbel temple twice per year

Phenomena at Abu Simbel

In Ancient Egypt temples a very important tradition was implemented; the statues of the gods of the temples and also the statues of the visiting gods were taken to the roof to the chapel of the sun god Ra to be washed with his rays.

In Abu Simbel temples, the statues of the gods (Ptah, Amun, Ramses & Rahor Ackty) were hewn in the rock of the sanctuary, so the ancient designers of the temple choose a site to allow the rays of the sun to pe*****te the sanctuary & hit the four statues perpendicularly to wash them together with the alter that carried the sacred bark - however, the statue of Ptah of Memphis was partly illuminated because the other half of it represented Osiris, god of the netherworld.

This phenomena happened twice a year in the old days, now the temples are moved the phenomena occurs one day later, i.e, 22 February & 22 October
