Depending on your activity level, sponges/scourers should be tossed after two weeks of use 🧼. The moist environment becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, so at that point, sponges/scourers do more harm than good 🚫
Follow these steps to ensure your scourer/sponge is clean and sanitized ✅:
1. Rinse with hot water after every use, wring it out and then place it in a well-ventilated area to dry out completely.
2. You can microwave your sponge for 1 minute in microwave-safe bowl but make sure it doesn’t contain any metallic material or plastic components. It should also be soaked in water prior because a dry sponge/scourer can catch fire. Let it cool for 10-15 mins, then remove
3. You can also place your sponge in the dishwasher on a hot cycle
Always clean and sanitize your kitchen sponge/scourer regularly and be sure to swap it out with a fresh one after 2-4 weeks for most kitchens. If your kitchen sponge/scourer smells, toss it immediately
