🤔 You might not immediately clock it, but working with Heya Wines from Lebanon sits fully within the currents of diaspora and movement that have shaped the Caribbean for over a century.
💡Did you know there are an estimated 500.000+ people of Levantine descent in the Caribbean?
🗺️ Levantine families, especially from Lebanon and Syria, arrived from the 1880s onward. They built lives through trade, shops, family networks, and food cultures carried across generations. Their presence shaped places like Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao, Suriname, Guyana, and the Dominican Republic.
This history was not always peaceful. Trade brought visibility, and visibility brought scrutiny, resentment, restrictions, and questions of belonging.
At The Caribbean Housewife, this is the space we work in. Diaspora, food, wine, memory, rituals, friction, and what gets carried forward.
