Images from our visit to Anne Mette Hjortshøj’s studio on Bornholm.

Working from her ceramic studio on the island, Anne Mette draws on the Danish pottery tradition, creating pieces that are fired in a self built two chamber kiln using wood and salt. The firing process gives each piece subtle variation and depth, while the forms remain balanced, functional and tactile.

Her practice moves between familiar forms and an exploratory approach to glaze, firing and local materials. Each piece carries traces of the hand and the process behind it.
