We’ve all heard the saying, “Bury the hatchet.”

But here’s the part we sometimes forget:

Bury the handle too.

Because if you leave even a little piece sticking out, the next time you get angry or hurt, it’s awfully easy to grab that handle, pull the whole thing back up and say:

“Remember when you did this to me?”

If we forgive someone, let’s really forgive them.

Don’t keep the handle around for the next argument.

Some friendships are worth more than winning an old fight.

Bury the hatchet.
Bury the handle.
And keep walking together.

Pull up a chair. There’s always room for one more around the kitchen table.

A MOTHER’S LOVE - THE FIRST LESSONS AROUND THE KITCHEN TABLE

There are many kinds of love in this world, but there is something especially powerful about the love between a mother and her child.

We see mothers go without so their children can have enough. We see them stay awake through the night when their child is sick, watching every little movement, listening to every sound, making sure their child is safe and okay.

Even when the child is sleeping, a mother is still watching, still caring, still protecting.

We see it in nature too. A mother animal will put herself between danger and her young, sometimes even risking her own life to protect them.

There seems to be something deep inside a mother that says:

Protect this child. Feed this child. Teach this child. Help this child survive.

But a mother does more than protect. She is often a child’s first teacher.

Don’t touch that. Say thank you. Be careful. Share. Tell the truth. Look both ways before crossing the street.

We might call it “mother’s wit” - those little pieces of wisdom that don’t seem so important when we’re children, but years later we realize how much truth was in them.

And some of the greatest lessons are never spoken.

A child watches how Mother treats people, handles disappointment, cares for someone who is sick, forgives, and keeps going when she is tired.

No mother is perfect. But love doesn’t require perfection. Sometimes love simply means being there - again and again.

While I was in Tennessee, someone suggested I stop by Hillside Hangout in Mt. Juliet — and knowing me, of course I had to try a burger! 🍔

I kept it simple and ordered a cheeseburger without all the extras because I wanted to get the real taste of the smash burger. My verdict? It was good! 👍🏽

What I really liked about Hillside Hangout is the atmosphere. It’s a laid-back, family-friendly spot with a dedicated play area for the children, so the little ones have their own space to enjoy themselves while the adults hang out. It’s also pet-friendly, with great cocktails, a nice menu, and plenty of room to relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

If you’re ever in the Mt. Juliet area, stop by and give it a try for yourself.
