Call for Submission of Letters of Intent for Cooperation Partnership
Establishment of Third Place Kaschta Café Global in Kampala, Uganda, Istanbul, Turkey, and Agona Swedru, Ghana – 2025

Introduction
Kaschta Café, in collaboration with the Umbaja Organization for Democracy and Sustainability, is pleased to announce a Call for Submission of Letters of Intent for Cooperation Partnership. We are inviting Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) from Kampala, Uganda, Istanbul, Turkey, and Agona Swedru, Ghana to apply to participate in a transformative social project: the establishment of Third Place Kaschta Café Global in 2025.
The Third Place Kaschta Café Global is designed to be more than just a café—it is envisioned as a dynamic social space, fostering community engagement, democratic discourse, and a deepened sense of belonging. This project aims to create vibrant, inclusive, and accessible environments where people from diverse backgrounds can gather, converse, and build stronger, more resilient communities. We believe in the power of third places to support democratic values, encourage civic engagement, and promote a sense of place that transcends the boundaries of home and work.
What is a Third Place?
The concept of a “Third Place” refers to a public space that exists outside the home (first place) and the workplace (second place). Third places are informal, neutral locations where people can gather, interact, and engage with one another. They serve as community hubs that foster social interaction, collective identity, and the development of civic relationships. In these spaces, individuals from various social, cultural, and economic backgrounds come together, participate in dialogue, and strengthen the fabric of their communities.
The Kaschta Café Global project is grounded in the belief that such spaces are vital for the flourishing of democracy and for fostering cross-cultural understanding. By supporting the establishment of Third Place Kaschta Café Global in three different locations—Kampala, Istanbul, and Agona Swedru—we aim to create a network of spaces where people can engage in meaningful conversations, participate in cultural and civic activities, and form lasting connections.
Objectives of the Third Place Kaschta Café Global Project
The core objectives of the Third Place Kaschta Café Global are as follows:
Promote Civic Engagement: Encourage active participation in community-building activities, political discourse, and civic initiatives.
Foster Cross-Cultural Understanding: Create spaces that encourage the exchange of ideas and cultural practices across different regions and communities.
Strengthen Local Communities: Provide a neutral space for people to gather, share experiences, and collaborate on community-driven projects and initiatives.
Support Social Inclusion: Ensure that the Third Place is accessible and inclusive for all, especially marginalized groups, promoting social equality and cohesion.
Enhance Democratic Values: Facilitate discussions, debates, and workshops that strengthen democratic principles such as free speech, equality, and justice.
Invitation to Apply
Kaschta Café and Umbaja Organization invite NGOs from Kampala, Uganda, Istanbul, Turkey, and Agona Swedru, Ghana to submit Letters of Intent to express their interest in participating in the Third Place Kaschta Café Global initiative.
The Letter of Intent should outline your organization’s commitment to supporting the development, implementation, and sustainability of the Third Place Kaschta Café in your respective city, including any potential roles in programming, community outreach, and partnerships. We are particularly interested in NGOs with experience in community development, democratic engagement, cultural exchange, social inclusion, or youth empowerment.
Submission Guidelines
Interested NGOs are requested to submit their Letter of Intent via email to:

The Letter of Intent should be no more than 2 pages and must include the following:
Name and Contact Information of the NGO.
Mission and Vision of the organization, particularly in relation to community-building, social engagement, and democratic values.
Experience and Expertise: A brief overview of relevant past projects, initiatives, or activities that demonstrate your organization’s ability to contribute to the goals of the Third Place Kaschta Café Global project.
Proposed Role: Clearly outline your organization’s proposed role and contributions to the project (e.g., program development, event facilitation, outreach, partnership-building, or volunteering).
Community Engagement Strategy: Describe how your organization intends to engage local communities and create inclusive, welcoming spaces that foster participation in the Third Place.
Sustainability Plan: Outline your organization’s approach to ensuring the sustainability and long-term impact of the Third Place Kaschta Café in your city, including strategies for local ownership and community involvement.
Deadline for Submission
The deadline for submitting Letters of Intent is January 31, 2025. All applications must be sent by email to the addresses provided above. Late submissions will not be considered.
Evaluation Criteria
The submitted Letters of Intent will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Alignment with the objectives of the Third Place Kaschta Café Global project.
Demonstrated experience in fostering community engagement, cultural exchange, or social inclusion.
A clear vision for creating a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable Third Place in your respective city.
Capacity to collaborate with Kaschta Café, Umbaja Organization, and other partners to achieve the project’s goals.
Commitment to long-term sustainability and local ownership of the Third Place initiative.
Next Steps
Following the submission of Letters of Intent, selected NGOs will be invited to participate in additional discussions, workshops, and planning sessions with Kaschta Café, Umbaja, and other stakeholders. These sessions will focus on refining the project’s design, identifying specific roles and contributions, and discussing funding and logistical considerations.
