Tap 20 is the first Ārpus keg we have ever had.

Six years of menus say Baltic beer has been on here 28 times. Twenty-three of those were Põhjala from Tallinn, and the very first line in the whole record, October 2020, is a Põhjala Öö. The Latvians only ever came in cans. Until now.

The fifth can gives the game away. Camba, our house brewery in Bavaria, brewed a Baltic Porter and called it Spirit of Tallinn. One can travelled 363 kilometres. The other 1.455.

And the thing almost every beer guide gets wrong: it is the bitterness that fights a curry, not the three letters on the badge. Our Pils is 35 IBU. So is the Sierra Nevada hazy IPA. Ask how bitter a beer is, not whether it says IPA.

An Hahn 20 läuft das erste Ārpus-Fass, das wir je hatten.

Sechs Jahre Karten sagen: 28 Mal baltisches Bier. 23 davon Põhjala aus Tallinn, und die allererste Zeile im ganzen Verlauf, Oktober 2020, ist ein Põhjala Öö. Die Letten kamen immer nur in Dosen. Bis jetzt.

Am deutlichsten wird es an der fünften Dose: Camba, unsere Hausbrauerei in Bayern, hat einen Baltic Porter gebraut und ihn Spirit of Tallinn genannt. Eine Dose hat 363 Kilometer hinter sich, die andere 1.455.

Und was fast jeder Bier-Ratgeber falsch macht: Gegen ein Curry arbeitet die Bittere, nicht das Kürzel auf dem Schild. Unser Pils hat 35 IBU. Das Sierra Nevada Hazy IPA auch. Frag, wie bitter ein Bier ist, nicht ob IPA draufsteht.

Six people walked in at ten past six with no booking. That happens most fair weeks, and it's the most avoidable mistake anyone makes during one.

Automechanika runs 8–12 September. Everyone leaves the halls inside the same hour, so tables near the fairground go fast, even for two people.

So we wrote the guide we keep giving people across the bar: the eight-minute walk from the Festhalle side, what Frankfurt itself actually eats (Handkäs mit Musik, Grüne Soße, and the Rindswurst a butcher invented in 1894 so more of the city could eat it), and why the bitterness of a beer matters far more than the three letters on the badge when there's a curry in front of you.
