A Japanese Autumn Afternoon 🍂

For the next chapter of Biyori Days, we’re bringing together four ways of experiencing the Japanese seasons through everyday life.

Guided by Rie, a certified Japanese table stylist, you’ll discover how seasonality can be expressed through the table and the objects around us.

You’ll also make your own Kumiko coaster, create one seasonal nerikiri, and learn a simple tea ceremony you can enjoy at home, guided step by step in the Urasenke tradition.

A small-group afternoon of Japanese seasonal culture, craft, wagashi and matcha.

📍 Düsseldorf-Unterbilk
📅 3 October 2026
🎟 €70 — all materials included

You’ll take home your own Kumiko coaster and seasonal nerikiri.

Tea ceremony doesn’t always have to feel traditional.

Sometimes, it is simply preparing tea at the table, slowing down for a moment, and enjoying each step at your own pace.

Table tea ceremony brings the experience into everyday life—no tea room needed, and no need to make everything perfect.

Just tea, a quiet table, and a little time for yourself. 🍵

* Morning Matcha *

Matcha in the morning.

The sound of the hot water,
the movement of the whisk,
and a small cosmos wagashi on the side.

Preparing a bowl of tea
gives me a moment to slow down
before the day begins.

Hōzuki — little lanterns for Obon 🏮

With their bright orange husks, hōzuki—Japanese lantern plants—look like tiny glowing lanterns. During Obon, it is believed that the spirits of our ancestors return to visit their families, guided by the light of lanterns.

Inspired by this special meaning, I shaped a hōzuki as nerikiri, using the warm shades of orange and red that belong to late summer.

A small seasonal wagashi that carries not only the beauty of the season, but also the memory of those we love.
