Dear Jivamukti Yoga Berlin Mitte students!
For all the ones who have been waiting for Jivamukti Mitte to open up again, the good news is that it is happening this Friday, September 18 with a class starting at 18:18 in the evening.
Thank you for all of you who have been already working with us on this natural re-growth in Kreuzberg. We want to make the re-opening of Mitte a similar slow and steady process. Things always grow and especially re-grow naturally…We would be happy if you support us by showing up and we will expand our class offerings accordingly.
It’s been a while since our last newsletter. The nature of time seems to be that it is always flying by and also that things are constantly changing. We used the last months for a lot of reflection and also for envisioning the future: Where do we want to take the school? Where in the yoga world do we want to be?
Yoga has been the passion of Jivamukti Yoga Berlin for the last 12 years, since our opening, all the way back in 2008 as Yoga*Loft Berlin. As Jivamukti Yoga Berlin, we established two strong schools which was only possible with the many amazing teachers and students, sharing the same passion: Yoga. Yoga to us means more than just a fun yoga class. It is a way of living. A lifestyle and actions that are deepening one's connections in as many ways and directions as one likes to take it. Veganism is important to us and a lifestyle that embraces the interconnectedness of all of life and our impact on the whole. A yogic lifestyle means becoming aware of the things that are happening in the world and all around us and taking them as a tool for self-reflection. And based on that, to consciously make choices that are not just beneficial for oneself, but honor mutually beneficial relationships with all of life.
Many great sages of the past have pointed out that the egotistic way of living is the disease of our time. Overcoming it will lead the evolution of humanity into a more compassionate and loving way of being with one another. And all is in our own hands, in the hands of the individual, but also as a big human family sharing the same home, this planet Earth, with all other beings.
However, change always starts in oneself. We cannot expect the world to take the right course if we are not living that. That’s where a consistent regular practice comes in. It can help to realign one's character and being in a way that supports the true experience of wholeness. The intention will determine the result of one's practice.
Jivamukti Berlin has grown a lot over the years. We started little with just one room and grew organically as a response to the ever growing number of students coming to our school. Always adding more and more classes:-). Lots of amazing people found their way to us, willing to take the practice as a way that leads inwards and helps to connect oneself and to what is truly essential.
Six months into the pandemic have shown that we have been overwhelmed with a lot of things. This constant growing … Our intention never was to become a big business. And we are not. And yes, we would love the entire world to practice yoga as a way of self-purification. This is our passion, yoga and the yogic path.
The Jivamukti Canteen especially has absorbed a lot of our energy and resources. The space was too small, many people in the tiny little area behind the counter working, making amazing food while welcoming in, serving all the students before and after their classes. And really we could never make the Canteen work financially. So the yoga school has always paid for the food! After all, it was a canteen:)! And it did live up to its name.
Times are changing. And the small good things will be pushed away. We, as a consumer, support it. There are very many vegan restaurants these days entirely dedicated to vegan food. When we opened up, there were probably not even a handful.
Thank you for each and everyone who believed in the Jivamukti Canteen. Over the almost past nine years (the Jivamukti Canteen was opened on 18.10.2011), by coming to eat, by working the many shifts and long hours, by doing the administration work behind the scenes, by delivering the best ingredients. You supported us in the Jivamukti Canteen’s mission in so many ways. Thank you!
It takes a strong business mind to make a restaurant work financially, even more so a vegan one and even more so in the current times of a global pandemic. We are not business people after all. We move with the challenges that the yoga school brings. The pandemic has brought a new challenge, which will mean to survive the next months whatever they might bring. We will not have the financial backup to keep supporting the Canteen as we did in all these years and we are also not willing to turn it into an ordinary restaurant business.
It was a perfect place. Many might not have been aware of the quality, goodness and love involved in making it to what it was! The Jivamukti Canteen was a place of pure dedication and love.
Yes, it was. Because, when we re-open Jivamukti Yoga Mitte this Friday 18.09.2020, there will be no canteen anymore.
What you will find when you come back to our Mitte school, is a very clean and empty space. We already heard some concerns that without our canteen we will be like every other yoga business! And we have to tell you we are not! Our director Anja is by nature an idealist. It’s her own development on her yoga path, too. Simplicity. Getting to the core of the teachings. Focused energy. Pure simple lifestyle. Healthy choices that are benefitting the world, which will hopefully also in the future attract the right teachers and students. In a world where most of the things are superficial, easily disposable, where self-centeredness is more important than a vision in togetherness; this is not easy.
Jivamukti Yoga Berlin is a way of living. How deep this will go, will depend on the people we will attract as teachers. This world needs depth! And the time is now. The state of the world shows this clearly. We have to be deep and see the underlying surface of things. Taking life as something precious and making something worthy out of it. Improving ourselves as individuals, always questioning whether not many of the beliefs we are holding onto, are ready to be thrown overboard. Many of you are ready to do the work!
Thank you for all of you who have been practicing quite regularly with us. Not doubting the practice and what the teachings point to: Inner peace.
We love you!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you also for sticking to what you know and love; continuing to support each other on this path.
