LOCK CHUCK A studio dedicated to bringing different cultures. We successfully drew a large group of fans and made it a landmark in town. What’s more to expect here?

We set up a pop-up store on a tranquil street, Zhusigang 2nd Lu, last year where we tested our idea and concept, that’s to bridge all walks of people and different culture. We are always enthusiastic to make surprises. The new store located on the same neighbour, No 6 Xiniu Lu, is taken on a brand new design concept, integrating minimalism and vintage style. Our well trained international team are always passionate in serving you good coffee. We are proudly collaborate with Irving Farm. Yes, many of you must have heard that it’s one of most beloved coffee roaster in New York. To keep you in tune with the latest global trend, no problem. We are happy to share with you our finest global titles stocking, Monocle from London, Popeye from Japan, etc. Of course, our familiar wonderful smiles. It’s never frozen here. Come to heat up. Coffee and love taste best when hot.

Our latest campaign, MAGIC HOUSE, is inspired by three of our favorite friends and the choices they made to follow their dreams.

We call it Magic House because magic happens to those who believe in it.

For this campaign, our window has been transformed by local artist Haitao, and a new menu is now available to enjoy alongside the stories. Read the full stories in our Magic House Highlight.

For over a decade, my trips to Tokyo have always included a haircut with Keizo-san. This week, he stood in an empty space in Ginza, describing the salon he had imagined long before it existed. Watching him speak, I was reminded of a giant neon sign I first saw on the facade of Macy’s New York years ago: BELIEVE.
It made me realize that every dream begins with someone daring to imagine it before anyone else can see it. The courage to believe in something that doesn’t exist yet, is what I call magic.

Before setting out for a new voyage to New York, Emily handed me a photo book she had made about Guangzhou. There were no famous landmarks, and instead it was just moments that were ordinary. Looking through her photographs, I realized something: she hadn’t simply lived in Guangzhou. She had learned to belong here.

And that‘s the real magic of a city, that one day you realize it has changed you.

Eleven years ago, Paris was just a place on a map. Then a friend walked into LOCK CHUCK, bringing home little pieces of the city. Years later, we finally went. And it felt less like arriving somewhere new than returning to a place we had already known.

But the greatest surprise wasn’t Paris itself. It was watching our friend build a new life there. It made me realize that perhaps the most magical places aren‘t magical because of where they are. They’re magical because they give people permission to become someone they were always meant to be.

Maybe that‘s why we’ll always have Paris. As a reminder that sometimes the bravest thing we can do is believe in a life we haven‘t lived yet.

【Easters, hey! 】⚡️⚡️⚡️

There are many ways to tell that Easter is coming at LOCK CHUCK. you already know the signs: egg painting event. Like we’ve said before, spring takes many forms around the world - And spring in Guangzhou never stays long, so over the years we’ve learned to make every moment count, especially when it comes to the holiday traditions we’ve built together.

This year marks our 11th Easter egg painting, and honestly, it still feels like the first time. We love watching the creativity each guest brings to our tables, and the ritual speaks for itself at this point. (Yes, the winner still gets a week of coffee on us. Some things shouldn’t change.)

What makes it all so special is the people who’ve been part of it from the beginning. William, our incredible photographer from Indonesia. He’s been capturing these moments since LOCK CHUCK’s early days, and seeing him again recently on our annual trip to Bali reminded me how lucky we are to have stayed so connected. I always feel like he has magic, because he always turns images into one.

It is the 11th Easter’s Egg Painting, yes, eleven years, hundreds of painted eggs and even so, we are still looking forward to all the creativity that guests will bring to LOCK CHUCK.

While we were deep in writing this story in the shop, the door swung open—and there he was, a familiar face. It took me a second to recognize him.

It was Professor Hannu, returning after three months.

I hugged him tightly.

“Surprise! Here I come again,” he said with his signature smile.

In that moment, I thought, this only happens in movies—if it weren’t for the setting.

Finns speak romance in their own way—through pauses, through the way they let life slow down, letting love and moments linger longer.

My trip to Finland felt like something straight out of a romantic movie.

Forest, my colleague, summed it up perfectly: In this movie, every encounter feels destined and every moment is graceful.

Back in 2017, during her second year of university, Forest thought, “Why not live in Europe for a while?” The question was where? Among a curated list of European universities, fate whispered: Aalto University, Finland. It was only later that she realized how moments are often guided by destiny. What began as a fleeting thought turned into an unexpected, yet beautiful, romance of friendship.

When Forest landed in Finland, she met Estelle, an effortlessly cosmopolitan Parisian with Chinese roots. Estelle was waiting with the Aalto exchange crew.

That was the beginning of their friendship—one that would travel from Finland to Canada, the U.S., and China. Together, they experienced the magic of Helsinki Design Week 2017, and in a sea of unfamiliar faces, fate led them to the same orientation group. It was a gentle reminder that some meetings are meant to be.

“Who could’ve imagined that a simple ‘Hi’ would echo across the years?” Forest reflected.

My explorations of Finland have filled me with an overwhelming sense of wonder. Even though I had imagined this place a thousand times, nothing compares to experiencing it firsthand.

The last friend I visited in Helsinki was Professor Hannu Kahonen—the one who sparked it all. Before LOCK CHUCK moved to its current location, we rented a small third-floor studio in a quiet residential area. The only sign outside read “Delay No More.”

It was curiosity that led Professor Hannu, then a visiting professor in Guangzhou, to push open the door, and from that moment, our friendship began.

We met at Café Ekberg, Finland’s oldest café, dating back to 1852. We sat by the window, hugged, and caught up.

“I’ve seen photos of Finland, heard stories, but being here is so overwhelming— in a good way,” I told him. “Looking back at LOCK CHUCK’s journey, Finland has always been there, in the background, ever since you walked through our door ten years ago. The story started then.”

“I’m so happy to see how far you’ve come,” Professor Hannu smiled, handing me two brochures—one showcasing his design work and another for his recent Tokyo exhibition.
I was inspired. “You designed the lower-deck trams? I’ve taken so many photos of them since I got here.”

“Finns are romantic,” I said, reflecting on my experiences.

Professor Hannu chuckled. “That’s not something we often hear, but I agree with you. We are.”

As we spoke, a tram slid into the platform outside, paused, then moved on. It felt like a scene change in a movie.
