I am noticing that women with their own business are viewed as an inconvenience when it comes to taking maternity leave.

Yesterday I had a couple people come up to me (who have never been my clients as of yet may I add) asking me for product I do not offer (and if I were to offer it, it’s not the time now to do trial and error on it) and they got mad at me for not being able to help them. When I told them I’ll be taking October off for my baby and then we will see how I feel after that, they outright guilted me to be back earlier for their convenience!

As a small business owner, I do not get the luxury of taking maternity leave with pay. I will be back to work with trade shows November. I can’t say I’ll be back to custom orders by then nor do I think I even want to be back for trade shows that early but I signed up and paid for them before I even found out I was pregnant.

Anyway, story is, I do not apologize for taking some time off for me as well as my baby. I deserve my time off as little as it is. And no, I will not at any time be travelling into a new baking realm (sugar free, fully gluten free etc) especially for people who haven’t supported me yet in the first place just because it’s convenient for them. Call me crazy, rude or whatever you want for this but I don’t appreciate being guilted for taking time for my newborn to be and myself!

Thank you to my amazing clients who have supported me over the last year and a bit! You’re all the real MVPs! I appreciate you all!

You busy this weekend!? Come out to the biggest little tradeshow in Saskatchewan!! This tradeshow brought in 2500 guests last year (even with the flooding) and can bring in 4000! Amazing vendors!

I’ll be in stall 19 at the back end of the building by the big garage door! So many goodies from bread, brownies, cake slabs, treat boxes, candy and sooooo much more!
