It seems like a lifetime ago that I first met Michael, Sarah, Blake and Kayla.
It wasn't in passing or at a local cafe. It was in their home.

Well sort of.

Start Fresh Kitchen feels like "home". Between the warmth from those who greet you, to the comforting aroma from the massive open kitchen that screams "Goodness resides here, you belong!"

And then something struck me. And it struck me hard. Like, right in the kisser.
Their vision and kindness seemed to emanate from them. And I remember putting out to the universe,
"one day I hope I can work with these fine people.".

And I just left it there.
Out there for the universe to do its thing.

Now you see, with all my extensive research and knowledge about the cosmos, I have come to understand,
that I actually don't understand the
first damn thing about the universe nor its timing. Which brings me to here.

To "one day".

As most of you know, or at least should, besides being THE PREMIER CATERER
in the valley, SFK has an amazing online grocery store which is LOADED with amazing local goods. And I mean LOADED.
Loaded.
So head over to
www.startfreshkitchen.ca
and grab what you need for that dinner with friends and family or that romantic picnic with that special someone.

They will be impressed as hell.

Oh, rumor has it they have a pretty damn good local coffee roaster on their shelves as well. Insert saucy wink emoji.

Yet another reason to support local
in the city
that
we
call
home.

Lately people keeping asking me "Bro, what have you been up to?"
Ok, maybe they don't all say bro but the question still remains.
Instead of rationing toilet paper and drinking hand sanitizer, I've been connecting.
Connecting with amazing people who share the same love of and as I do.
Connecting with people who are passionate about their passions. Connecting with people who work endless hours creating, developing and perfecting.
Connecting with people who have dirt under their fingernails, sweat on their brows and vision up the ying yang.
Connecting with artists who understand the value of hard work and the importance of
Connecting with people that have hearts the size of the Pacific and that is simply, immeasurable.
And connecting with people who simply have mad skills yo.
Over the next few days you are going to see what I've been up to and meet these fine folks.

So brace yourselves,
"s**t is about to get real". ~My mom.

I must make a confession. I haven't been practicing what I preach. Between business growth, vision ex*****on and the relentless onslaught of uncertainty and hypersensitivity in the world, I have strayed.
I have spent less time breathing and savouring and more time "working" and "creating". Personally, I operate best when I inhale balance and rest.
Since discovering coffee in its purest form in 2009, I have changed.
You see, I am not the kind of person who takes things at first glance, at least I haven't been since I first watched

From that point on,
I question.
And I consider intently the work and effort and passion that people put into their craft.
As you know by now, yoga has become engrained into the most deepest part of my being.
While embracing concepts such as self-compassion, contemplation and awareness into my daily walk, it has allowed me to remain focussed.
Focussed on the art of savouring and appreciation.

The .
20 grams of the freshest, most vibrant and perfectly roasted single origin bean.
My .
295 mls of purified water.
My 18 year old gooseneck kettle. And a well chosen cup.

And silence.

I forget sometimes that it is meant to be healing. Not something I rush through out of desperation.

The aroma of and the meditative process of the bloom. The patience with the drip and satisfaction of the pour.
And finally, the sip.
That defining moment when the planets align and natural essence is unleashed to the world. When I sip, I close my eyes and consider the family farm in which I purchase our beans and the blood, sweat and tears that literally go into every sack of coffee beans. I explore my palette for new and exciting flavor profiles that set the tone for embracing the day ahead.
I don't think about the Keurig or the year old beans sold at discounted price from Costco.

"Holy s**t man, it's just a cup of coffee for crying out loud."

Not to it ain't.

I've always marched to the beat of my own drum in some regards. Whether it is the music I listen to, the places I've been, the books I've read or the madness in which I find my method.
It's just how I roll.
When I left Auckland, I was devastated. I had an amazing job with the absolute best people, the best friends, a wetsuit, a wonderful little house with a lemon tree, the sea and all it's healing, and a half started dream. Napkins, notepads and my chemex took note of that dream.

Howeeva, life hed utha plans.(note. No scandal or juicy story about kicking a hobbit to report..just visa couldn't get renewed.)
No worries cuz.
She'll be right mate.
So then I came back to Kelowna and met an Aussie. A real good one. We talked beans and the beach. And then we started roasting coffee in an airpopper.
Yup.
Which melted. Well actually, it caught on fire.
Then it melted.
So I went home. And tried it again. And burned the absolute hell out of my first batch. All 75 grams of it. But there was hope.
Suddenly I was reminded of my napkins, my notepads and my dream.
Roaster. Ducting. Beans. Labels. Bags. Stamps. Scales. Bins. Business cards.
We took our time. Managed life, kinda. Changed our labels. And got a bigger roaster. But stayed true. True to my roast. True to my path and true to my dream. Still doing it in my slow, sweet maddening time.
But true as..

Oh ya. And now, we have a flippin website.

Cheers bro

The best way to slow down and appreciate your morning cup.
The chemex grabs onto aroma, body and dynamic flavours and hits you straight in the face. Wake up with a chemex and toss that keurig to the curb. I've said it a thousand times, you deserve better.
