Update – Prince Albert National Park is open. There are currently no wildfires in the park.

Parks Canada is taking proactive steps to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire and maintain wildfire readiness in Prince Albert National Park.

All backcountry areas in Prince Albert National Park are closed effective May 28, 2025 until further notice. This is a preventative measure due to extreme fire danger in the park and wildfire activity in Saskatchewan. The fire ban issued May 5, 2025, remains in place for all areas of Prince Albert National Park.

The park is currently experiencing extreme fire danger created by persistent warm, dry and windy conditions. The fire ban and backcountry closure are preventative measures that help reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire and focus resources on wildfire preparedness. The area closure affects all backcountry campground, trails, picnic sites, rivers and lakes. All overnight and day use of backcountry areas is prohibited. Front-country campgrounds and hiking trails remain open. Visitor safety is of the utmost importance to Parks Canada. Parks Canada closes areas only when absolutely necessary, to protect natural and cultural resources. Going into closed areas is unsafe and illegal. Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.

Front-country campgrounds, day-use areas, beaches and trails in Prince Albert National Park remain open to enjoy.

Before going out on a trail, check the trail conditions page on the Parks Canada website or contact the visitor centre at 1-306-663-4522 to ensure the trail is open.

Anglers and paddlers are welcome to explore Waskesiu Lake, Sandy (Halkett) Lake and the Hanging Heart Lakes, up to the Crean Lake channel, at their leisure.

Beaver Glen, Red Deer, Narrows, Sandy (Halkett) and Namekus campgrounds are open. A fire ban remains in effect for all of Prince Albert National Park, including all front-country areas.
