To inherit freedom is to receive a priceless heirloom forged in the crucible of sacrifice. True independence is born when a magnificent majority of brave souls consciously decide to lay down their own comfort, their own peace, and their own lifetimes so that a new era can dawn. They endured the deepest pains of the human condition so that their children—and the children of strangers arriving from every corner of the earth—would never have to know that darkness.
Today, as Canada celebrates its unity and its journey, we bow our heads. We look at the red and white not just as colors, but as symbols of the lifeblood and the pure canvas of peace that was gifted to us. To live here in safety is a privilege; to protect that safety with integrity is our duty.
