We asked the people who’ve been packing this island since 1945 what makes or breaks a trip. Coffee was never the answer.

Cole’s spent six years fitting boots and packs at Robinson’s. His first answer was the people you’re with. The second, and the one piece of gear he says makes or breaks it, is up on our journal now.

The coffee’s in the pack either way.

There’s a corner table at our café on Caledonia, in Victoria, that has been holding the same coffee meeting since the early 1990s. The café opened on North Park in 1989; we bought it in 2006 and moved it one street over, into the old Stan Thompson upholstery building on Caledonia. The meeting moved with us.
