Rainy days like this may slow the traffic at some businesses but for us- it means a lot of our customers can’t work outside. It means families at the cottage are stuck inside. We’ll likely be swamped with customers looking to browse around, enjoy drinks and treats on the patio. It means today is used for grocery shopping or for visitors, checking out all the local businesses.

Cindy Ryder and Annabelle Van Luven have already been baking for several hours and 2 of the 3 retail staff Kiara LD and Lori Yateman are already working behind the scenes to get the fresh baked products on the shelf! Julianna will slide right in there at open to serve you!!!

We go from posting twice a day to a couple of times a week!!

This is the busiest we’ve ever been! Our customer base doubled in Covid and it’s having a new boost while we race to grow and keep up.

This year, we have been pleasantly surprised by the number of locals who have added us to their routine, as well as the travellers from across Canada and around the world. If you are not directly involved in the tourism industry, you may not be aware of the quiet visitors who land here and support all the local businesses.

This week it was amazing to speak with and learn from a Turkish family who was making their rounds to as many businesses as possible!!

We love that there is a new group of locals who discovered our coffee is on and the doors are open at 7:30 AM, that the young ladies who needed internet and to work after hours on our patio could get their work done while sipping ice coffees, that the little kids will tell us their names and ask for their favourite pie they remember from last year!

We’re working hard to please all palates!

Letting you know Sean Pero whipped up some stuffed peppers and stuffed double baked potatoes before he left us for another couple of weeks!!

We were the taste testers and we know you’ll love them!!

Update: We sold all 42 tubs in just over 24 hrs.
We still have it for scooping in the lunchroom.
Kawartha Dairy tells us they should not run out for the summer so we should be able to get more for next Thursday.

We’ve been working on a little project for you. Trying to make things a bit more comfortable on our patio.

With more items on our breakfast and lunch menu, which are always good for road snacks, more and more people are sticking around to enjoy them here. For those who just want to enjoy their ice cream, milk shakes and ice coffees before they jump back in their vehicles- we promised a more comfortable spot.

Since covid- we had been storing tractor seats that only made their way to our storage room instead of onto our picnic table seats. It’s hard to find people who will do small jobs.

Thanks to one of our cooks’ Aimee Jacques husband Joe, we got the stool tops switched to tractor seats.

Our picnic tables needed a face lift and one desperately needed repair and reinforcement. Joe looked after that too!! One by one they left here and promptly returned. Joe painted the metal bases while my father-in-law Glenn Perry got the job of painting the wooden seats, backs and table tops.
We still have a couple more to go but we’re pretty proud of what we have so far.
The tractor seats are actually very comfortable!!

We like to make food from scratch.

We make vegetable broth, chicken stock, beef broth and pork stock. We sell the vegetable and chicken stock because we make enough volume. All meat stocks are made by cooking our own Perry Farm meats.

We use our beef stock to make the beef stroganoff and French Onion Soup but many of our other dishes that contain beef don’t require stock due to the amount of beef in the dish. We use our beef in the Lasagna, Cabbage Rolls, Shepherds Pies, Moussaka and Stroganoff as well as our Grilled Steak and Swiss Melt served in our lunchroom or for takeout.

We roast pork hocks to make Maple Pork & Beans and use the stock to make the Wonton Soup as well as Cajun Jambalaya.

Chicken stock is made by roasting our chickens and is used in several soups including Chicken Noodle, Chicken Rice and Mulligatawny. The meat from the chickens is put in our Chicken Salad Sandwiches and Cajun Jambalaya and the soups of course.

Although we don’t make our sandwich bread, we do make sure to use all of it!

We make our own croutons with the leftover ends (or heals if you’re an easterner) and use them in our French Onion Soup. The fact that they’re made with 12 Grain bread and seasoned to perfection make that soup really special.

We take those croutons and grind them to make bread crumbs that we make available to you in our store.
You can use them to top your Mac and Cheese, in Hamburgers, Meatballs, Cabbage Rolls and so much more.

Who knew we would ever use Atlantic Ocean Salt harvested and rendered in Atlantic Canada.

There are a few small companies doing this and we are the benefactors of their little enterprises. South Shore Sea Salts operates out of Hubbards Nova Scotia.

We’re now using beautifully flaked Atlantic Ocean Sea Salt on our FOCACCIAS!!

Offering them in packages of pre-sliced- awesome for road snacks!
