On October 5, our friend Macià Bagur Gomila of Meo makes the short trip over to Bao Bei for the first of our Collab Dinners.

The idea is simple. We invite chefs we admire into our kitchen and let them cook Bao Bei their way. Macià brings his Spanish and Korean family roots to the table, which is how chorizo ends up in a steam bun. It’s very good. We checked. Several times.

His dishes will be served à la carte alongside seven Bao Bei favourites.

From 5:30PM until sold out. No tickets required. Reservations through the link in bio.

Every legend has a few versions. So do ours.

One legend traces mantou back some 1,800 years to Zhuge Liang, the famed strategist of the Three Kingdoms period. As the story goes, somewhere along a military campaign, necessity called for an offering, and steamed buns shaped in place of human heads became the answer.

The history gets a little hazy from there. The bun, thankfully, stuck around.

Ours have had a few lives of their own. Different fillings, different forms, different years at Bao Bei. We went digging through the archives to see just how much has changed.

Legend has it, they found a home on Keefer Street.

Yes we made the flatbread from scratch. Yes, it’s bomb! Breakfast shao bing, sesame seed flatbread, egg crepe, pork floss, shredduce, Chinese pickles.
