Dearest Revellers: (tl:dr: Revel loves you, thankyou for the music, hang in there!)
On this o so quiet and subdued NYE, it feels like an appropriate moment to send a little love letter out into the world and let all of our Revel family and friends know how much we miss and appreciate you! As many of you have noticed, The Revel Room remains closed. While we are hopeful there may be a way to resurrect the space at some point down the line, it is far from a certainty, as is so much of life these days...
We miss our wonderful staff, guests, and oh-so talented musicians who collectively made the room truly feel like home. It was our great pleasure to share our living room with you and partake in so many memories and good times for the past twelve years, and we hope we are able to make new memories with all of you in the future.
Much has been written and discussed in 2020 about the hospitality industry and more recently the live music arm of the industry. We want to take this moment to send support and love to our fellow restauranteurs, music venues, and especially artists. Whilst painful, our closure is a far smaller loss than many in our community and indeed our world are facing both in business and in life and rather than dwelling on the negative we prefer to look back on all the incredible memories we made. We are hopeful that the silver lining to come out of this year will be a groundswell of support for venues of all kinds in a post pandemic world, particularly independent venues. Despite our own situation, it’s been empowering and heartening to watch our industry neighbours come together; advocating for and looking out for one another and focusing on a shared love of music, community, creativity, and general merriment.
So as this year ends and we head into a new one dreaming of better days ahead, Revel sends love and light to you all. We’re crossing our fingers (and toes, and eyes!) that our closure isn’t a forever goodbye, more like a goodnight while we continue a longer than expected hibernation. But regardless of what the future holds, we wanted to leave 2020 on a happy note amidst so much anxiety we know that many of our community are grappling with. We thought about posting a highlight reel from our most memorable New Years Eves past but that felt a tad bittersweet for this moment. So instead, we leave you with a couple of numbers from our dear friends Lorraine Smith and Dutch Robinson that remind us all to look ahead - what will be will be and it truly is a wonderful world.
