"I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself and share the mission behind .
My name is Carina, a Chinese Canadian shaped by my upbringing in Vancouver, BC. Though I was born in Hong Kong, my childhood was like that of a typical kid in Vancouver who enjoyed outdoor activities and sports very much such as baseball. However, I was also deeply influenced by my mother’s Taiwanese heritage, so I grew up speaking English, Cantonese, and Mandarin. My parents instilled in me the importance of staying connected to my Chinese roots, encouraging my siblings and me to speak only Chinese to our elders in the household and enrolling me in Chinese school for a few precious hours every Saturday.
As a child, I dreamed of becoming a pediatrician, which led me to study Cell Biology and Genetics at university. Yet, life had a different journey in store for me. I found myself teaching English in public elementary schools in Japan for several years, a transformative experience that completely changed my life path and I ended up exploring and living in various parts of Asia before finally returning home to Vancouver, where I entered the medical field.
I’m immensely grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to work with hospitals across the US, including Stanford Health Care, Johns Hopkins Hospital, and Kaiser Permanente. My work with surgeons, doctors, nurses, paramedics, and medical staff has been an incredible experience. During the pandemic, I primarily worked alongside psychiatrists and mental health therapists as we coped with an overwhelming rise in mental health cases of patients.
It was during this time that I found the inspiration to create . I wanted to create a space where others like me could connect and cultivate a healthy tea lifestyle. I understand the profound difficulties that accompany loss and hardship, as I’ve faced my own moments of grief, looking to tea and solo hikes as my solace and therapy. Through sharing my story and the stories of others, I hope to invite you to join me in a journey towards wellness, one cup of tea at a time. Let’s raise our teacup together and embrace UNITEA in love and peace."
