When a brew tastes especially good, I want to know what worked. ☕️

My DiFluid Microbalance helps me follow recipes more consistently, while the R2 Extract helps me understand how changes in my brewing affect extraction.

Taste still guides me. The numbers give me more context—especially with new beans or a new technique. Together, they help me learn from each brew and repeat the cups I love.

And yes, the scale connects to my own app… more on that soon 👀

If you’ve been considering either tool, you’ll find my exclusive discount code through the link in my bio.

Do you use a smart scale or a refractometer in your setup?

Your espresso is only as clean as your machine.

Old coffee oils can build up on the shower screen and affect every shot.

Backflushing helps, but once a month, remove the screen, soak it in espresso cleaner for 10 minutes, then rinse it well.

I also upgraded to an IMS Precision screen for more even water flow.

When was the last time you cleaned yours?

Precision baskets can give you a cleaner, sweeter shot, but they’ll also make every little puck prep mistake way more obvious 😅

I’ve been using the TiiRHINO Precision Espresso Baskets lately, and they’re becoming some of my favorite baskets. Really nice flow, great build quality, and when everything is dialed in, the espresso is seriously good.

Would you do the extra work for a better shot? ☕️

One espresso recipe doesn’t fit every coffee. ☕️

Normale: 1:2, the everyday starting point.
Ristretto: 1:1 to 1:1.5, great for darker roasts when you want a richer shot with less bitterness.
Lungo: around 1:3, useful for light roasts that taste too sour and a great base for an Americano.

Same machine, same beans, different ratio, very different cup.

I’m using the Casabrews Marenza here, one of my favorite budget all-in-one machines.

Sound on. There’s a new Whale on my coffee bar. 🐋☕️

Unboxing the **Gemilai Whale G3038A**, and there’s more to it than a shiny exterior.

It has an E61 brass group head to help keep heat steady, plus a 2L heat exchanger boiler. So yes, you can pull a shot and steam milk at the same time. Handy when you’re making coffee for more than just yourself.

But the feature I’m most curious to try is the pressure control. You can set your brew pressure beforehand or adjust it while the shot is pouring. That opens up a little more room to play with different beans.

There’s PID temperature control, too, and pre-infusion lets you adjust both bloom time and water volume. The dual display shows pressure in real time, while touch controls handle the key brew settings.

For now, enjoy the unboxing sounds. **What should I put to the test first?** 👀

Unique Coffees From Different Countries, And The Stories Behind Them.

Coffee is not just one drink. Every country has its own version, its own story, and its own reason behind the recipe.

From Persian Qahveh with saffron and rose water, to Vietnamese Egg Coffee, Turkish Coffee, Café de Olla, and Hong Kong Yuenyeung, these drinks show how coffee changes with culture, history, and local taste.

Some are sweet. Some are spiced. Some are layered. Some are brewed the same way for hundreds of years.
