✨ 2025, you were generous.
This year brought us new coffees, new collaborations, new lessons, and—most importantly—new connections. Every shared cup reminded us why we do this work.

To everyone who supported us, believed in us, roasted with us, brewed with us, or simply took a moment to taste what we’re building—thank you. Your trust fuels our curiosity and keeps us committed to doing things with intention.

A special thank you to our import partners—Semilla, Crop to Cup, Orange Brown, and Forest—for the relationships, the transparency, and the bridges you help build. Your work makes it possible for us to honour the people and places behind every coffee.

At Philo Coffee, our compass remains steady:
decolonization, relationship, culture, sustainability, and changes.
We’re driven by change—not as a trend, but as a responsibility. Change in how we source, how we communicate, how we honour producers, and how we show up for the communities we’re connected to. Growth only matters when it’s rooted in care.

As we look toward 2026, we’re carrying all these learnings with us. Coffee is a living, evolving community experience, and we’re more than happy to evolve with it.

Here’s to another year of connection, discovery, and cups that bring people together.
Cheers to an exciting new year ✨☕️

Discovering Las Flores: Allan Melgar’s Coffee Journey

In the picturesque hills of Santa Rosa, Guatemala, lies a small but mighty farm called Las Flores. Meet Allan Melgar, a visionary coffee grower continuing his family’s rich legacy. With only five hectares, Allan and his father, Fernando, are redefining what this land can produce. From the classic chocolatey washed Guatemalan coffees to bold experiments with exotic varieties like Gesha and SL-28, Allan is all about pushing boundaries. Natural processing is now also part of their repertoire, adding vibrant, fruit-forward layers to the mix. Check out this incredible story of heritage, curiosity, and care.

What makes your morning cup of coffee special? For us, it’s knowing the hands that cultivated it with passion and dedication. At Las Flores, the Melgar family carries the torch for quality and innovation. Allan is a third-generation coffee enthusiast who isn’t afraid to mix tradition with novelty. His recent delve into natural processing adds bursts of fruit notes to their beloved chocolate-rich brews. Grab a bag and taste the love from Santa Rosa. What makes this coffee truly special?

Conclusion

At Philo Coffee, we are committed to sourcing impactful specialty coffees and fostering meaningful relationships with the producers who cultivate them. One of the most inspiring initiatives we support is the Monkaaba project in Colombia, led by Esnaider Ortega Gomez and a group of smallholder coffee growers in San Agustin. This empowerment project, primarily aimed at helping growers take control of their production and sales processes, is transforming lives by creating new opportunities in the specialty coffee market.
About Monkaaba and Stiven Hoyos
Monkaaba is dedicated to improving the lives of local coffee farmers by helping them secure better prices for their coffee while investing in their knowledge and skills. Esnaider's decade-long experience as a roaster and cupper revealed a disconnect between buyers and producers, prompting him to create a platform for growers to gain feedback, refine their techniques, and actively participate in cupping sessions. Stiven Hoyos, a young farmer in the collective, embodies this new generation of passionate growers, carrying forward his family’s coffee-growing legacy and contributing to the community’s success.
The Role of Semilla
The collaboration with Semilla, an importer that shares Monkaaba's vision, further strengthens this initiative by connecting growers with roasters like us. By supporting Monkaaba, we believe we are not only enhancing the quality of our coffee but also contributing to the sustainability of the entire coffee-growing community.
Conclusion
At Philo Coffee, we are proud to support Monkaaba and the vision of Esnaider Ortega Gomez and Stiven Hoyos. We are excited to continue building strong relationships with the growers and importers who make our specialty coffees possible. Together, we can ensure a brighter future for specialty coffee, one that values and uplifts every producer involved.
Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. We look forward to sharing more stories and exceptional coffees with you in the future.
