Since 1979, BTW has continued to thrive as a unique staple at the corner of Bloor Street and Brunswick Avenue. A familiar destination for both locals and out-of-towners, BTW has grown and evolved with Canada’s most cosmopolitan city, becoming a well known landmark in one of Toronto’s most highly regarded and quaint neighborhoods. In addition to the independently focused shops that surround it, BTW

is within walking distance of the historic University of Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum, Royal Conservatory’s Koerner Hall, Tarragon Theater, Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, and the upscale Yorkville shopping district. Whether it’s Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Weekend Brunch, or Late Night Jazz, BTW is a casual fine dining eatery that creates dishes that are as exquisite as they are healthy. Daily specials are carefully created, inspired by fresh seasonal ingredients and well blended spices. In addition to world renowned ales and lagers, BTW’s vast wine menu features a selection of hand-picked house wines and vintages to accompany your meal. We welcome you to experience our delightful, cozy ambiance, be it inside the restaurant itself or under the warmly lit canopy of our fantastic corner patio.

Here's a little gift to the community - our dill sauce recipe!

BY THE WAY DILL SAUCE
For Eggs Dillemma

3 Eggs
2/3 Cup of Sunflower Oil
1 Teaspoon Garlic Powder
1 Teaspoon Salt
1/4 Cup of Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
1 Teaspoon Dijon Mustard
1/2 Bunch of Fresh Dill ( *discard the stem, only the leaves)
Optional: 1/2 Teaspoon Vinegar (if you want it to last longer)

Instructions:
In a food processor, beat eggs and slowly pour the oil into the mix to create an aioli.
Add remaining ingredients on low speed.
Incorporate the fresh dill into the mix (add more dill as desired).

Use this yummy sauce over Poached Eggs to create Eggs Dillemma, or use it for a dip or on top of vegetables or fish.

Enjoy!

Sincerely,
The Benedikt Family

Dear beloved clients, neighbours, and community,

It's with mixed emotions that we share the news that By The Way will close its doors on August 31.

After over 40 years in business and serving and meeting so many wonderful people, we and our family felt that it was time to start a new chapter.

It has been the people who have blessed us the most. Our family has been so fortunate to have met and worked with so many amazing staff members, have had the great fortune to have served so many loyal customers, and are immensely grateful for a supportive community. It's the people who made By The Way a successful business and our home here on Bloor Street. Please accept our deepest gratitude for welcoming us into the community and for all your support.

Over the next few weeks, we hope to see you and hear your stories of your time with us in our home at By The Way.

Please stay tuned as we share more details about our last weeks. We also ask for your patience and understanding as we wind down our operations.

Sincerely,
Amir & Ruth Benedikt

Posted • Week 3 of the Bloor Annex BIA's Summer Music Series starts tonight!

All summer long, join us every Friday from 6 - 8 pm, Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm, and Sunday from 12 - 2 pm for live music by local artists on the public stage located on the north east corner of Bloor St. and Brunswick Ave.

Performing this weekend:

Friday, July 4 at 6 pm: The Lucky Pennies ( )

ABOUT: The Lucky Pennies lean into their love of roots, folk, and pop with an acoustic set-up: double bass, dobro, drums, harmonica and guitar. Their playlist might sound a bit like if Hank Williams and Courtney Barnett went on a road trip together!

Saturday, July 5 at 11 am: Jennifer Foster ( )

ABOUT: Jennifer Foster is a Toronto singer-songwriter with a gift for emotionally honest, melody-rich songs. Her upcoming album, Powerline, is a fresh, acoustic-driven folk-pop collection that Ron Sexsmith calls “wonderful.” This marks her fourth release—her last earned a JUNO nomination for Producer of the Year (Michael Phillip Wojewoda). She’s collaborated with a who’s who of Canadian music, including Ron Sexsmith, Carole Pope, Lori Cullen, BNL’s Kevin Hearn, Moe Berg, and The Pursuit of Happiness. You might also recognize her as a Jazzagal from five seasons on the Emmy-winning Schitt’s Creek.

Sunday, July 6 at 12 pm: Harley Card ( )

ABOUT: Guitarist and composer Harley Card has been a contributor to the creative music scene in Canada since 2003. As a singer-songwriter Harley emerged as a member of the Toronto chamber jazz group; Hobson’s Choice. In 2018 Harley began performing with his own solo projects as a songwriter and has since released three recordings; ‘Unconfined Invisible’, ‘Two Tomorrows’ (single), and ‘Our Canopy’ (an EP co-released with trumpeter/singer-songwriter Rebecca Hennessy).

ABOUT: Trash Panda Brass formed in the summer of 2022 with a simple mission of engaging crowds and spreading q***r and inclusive joy. Within two years of conception, they graced the cover of Whole Note magazine, rocked TD Jazz Fest, Do West Fest, Cultivate festival, and the Distillery District Concert Series. In November of 2023, they released their debut EP, “Opposable Thumbs”. After three summers of active busking, their home will always be on the streets where they are “retooling the art of busking into a kind of amazing outdoor ambush” - The Whole Note

On Saturday, June 21, we're delighted to welcome !

ABOUT: The West End Riverboat Band combines the musicianship and roots of traditional New Orleans jazz with the vivaciousness and raw energy of a contemporary rock band. Their ambitiously diverse repertoire spans music from the past 200 years, drawing tunes from Brazilian choro to klezmer, country ballads to Chopin; and ultimately, transmuting these songs into the stomping dance soundtrack of a New Orleans Mardi Gras celebration.
