September is here, and Toronto has already started reminding us that summer doesn’t last forever. 🍍 The evenings are getting cooler, jackets are coming back out, but we’re not quite ready to let go of that summer feeling yet.

So for now, we’re holding onto it the easiest way we know how — bright, juicy fruit, a little tropical mood, and pretending it’s still one of those warm August afternoons at SLATE Restaurant & Bar. ☀️

Okay, can we talk about this wall for a second? 🌸 It’s become one of those little parts of SLATE Restaurant & Bar that somehow ends up in so many evenings — first dates, birthday dinners, girls’ nights, family celebrations… and yes, quite a few “wait, take a photo of me here” moments. 😄

We see it every day, but when the light hits all those pink roses like this, it still makes us stop and look.

Thursday has its own rhythm at SLATE Restaurant & Bar. Someone orders wings “for the table,” another person adds the chicken bites, and by the time the drinks arrive, everyone’s already reaching for the same plate. There’s a moment in the kitchen when a dish stops being a list of ingredients and starts coming together. This was it. A few seconds earlier, everything was still lined up in the prep station. Then the bowl came out, greens went in, the finishing touches followed, and someone was already reaching for the next order.

I like catching these little in-between moments at SLATE Restaurant & Bar — the ones guests usually don’t see. No finished plate yet, just hands moving, ingredients being added and dinner getting one step closer to the table.

Friday was already getting louder around us — conversations picking up, glasses meeting across tables, everyone finally switching out of work-week mode. And then the light caught this drink. Not for long, just enough to turn that deep purple into flashes of pink and make the lemon peel almost glow. I grabbed the camera before the moment disappeared.

That’s probably my favourite thing about Friday at SLATE Restaurant & Bar — somewhere between the first drink and deciding to stay for another, the weekend officially starts. And tonight, 3 oz Martinis are $15. 🍸
