Thank you for your beautiful messages in response to our closing announcement yesterday. We feel very appreciated and very at peace knowing that you experienced the sense of warmth and belonging that we sought to create in the café.
We want to extend our appreciation to our staff of terrific young women who worked with us to create the environment that you enjoyed. And to Jay. Jay keeps the building secure, kept the café sparkling clean and, generally, kept everything ship shape so we could focus on you, our terrific customers and friends.
We hope to see many of you as we continue to wander the neighbourhood. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

With great sadness, we will not re-open Elvy & Flo café. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for a wonderful year meeting and talking with so many people in our great neighbourhood who enjoyed our space as we dreamed it would be enjoyed.
The challenges of operating a café as a centre of community in our new environment are daunting. We loved the flow and energy of people and conversation, music afternoons on the patio, children running around and sidling up to the bar for miniccinos. Unfortunately, the very important public health measures required to protect us all from coronavirus, have fundamentally altered the nature of a business such as ours.
We are committed to our space as a community hub. You told us Toronto lacks day care spaces. We are now deep in discussion with a local daycare operator who has applied for a license at our space. For more information please visit Riverdale Activity Centre or email [email protected]. We’re hoping they’ll also serve coffee! We’ll keep you posted here and on Facebook.
Thank you. We will miss you.

Toronto is entering Phase 2 – the opening of café and restaurant patios at reduced capacity.
However, we have made the decision to remain closed for the time being.
The harm mitigation measures that are required (and important) mean that we would be operating at very reduced capacity, with heightened vigilance for your and our health and safety.
We think it will be better for all of us if we wait and explore new ways of working in our space to maximize our value to our neighbourhood. You are in our hearts.
Be safe. Wear masks. Keep your distance from others. Wash your hands.
We will keep you informed as we progress.

Thanks everyone for dropping by our side-door pop-up this past weekend. It was great to see you, even with all the screens and masks between us. Given the current situation with the virus in our neighborhoods, we have decided to wait a bit before our next one. We will keep you posted and we miss you very much.

We believe that everyone who can wear a mask should wear a mask in all crowded situations. But there’s no reason not to wear a great-looking mask. This weekend we are selling beauties like these from and donating every penny to the South Riverdale Community Health Center . We have womens, men’s and kids sizes, all for $15 each.
You can also order them through Jaya's etsy store https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/ducharmecreations?fbclid=IwAR1Ha7VjxaDqgafz9INCMqsgdUNCReQ1J7gbHUfhYctFAWpkdH8qwwJXGEQ

The patio garden is ready. We’ve tuned up the espresso machine. We’ve read all we can find on safe and healthy business practices in a corona virus world. So, we’re taking our first steps and reopening for takeout this weekend! Coffees, teas (hot & iced) and baked goods. We’re looking forward to seeing you! (PS cards only please)

Our 'home-made' sign is featured in this piece about voice in the city. We wrote it on March 16 thinking we'd be closed two weeks. We miss you all more than ever!

‘Due to Covid-19’: Those three words – written, scribbled, and typed a million times over in the past three weeks – have come to symbolize a stunning shift in the way we experience the public...

We want to thank and let you know how deeply we appreciate the front line health workers and others working over time to keep us safe and life as normal as possible during the time of COVID-19. Hugh (Grandpa) was the town doctor in Truro, NS. Photos of him with Flo are rare. He was always on call, always ready to support his town. On lucky summer days he went sailing.
