LAST DAY OF OUR GRANITA SEASON

Ok ok technically this half granita (pistacchio di Bronte) and half Coronation grape sorbetto 🍇

But the point is, we have loved making granita for you this summer and watching all of you mix and match alllll the flavours and iterations- with gelato, sorbetto, panna, coconut panna, and enjoying *frozen* granita AKA freeze pops! Thanks for eating your way through the season with us, starting with strawberries in June and ending with grapes in October. 🍓 ➡️🍇

Granita 2027 starts up when the fruit growing season starts again, and we begin that cycle every year with 🍓🍓🍓

So until next summer, we say so long to granita 👋🏼👋🏼 but WE ARE STILL OPEN making gelato until the end of October. 🎃

BONUS FLAVOUR in the gelato cabinet this week: TAHINI & DATE - it’s dairy free and super creamy and earthy tasting! (Tahini is white sesame paste)

We’ll definitely be having this one in an affogato for a nutty Fall treat 🍂☕️ but it would also pair beautifully with the Coronation grape, dark chocolate or the olive oil gelato flavours on this week’s menu.

Happy October 🎃
Sadly, this is the last week for granita this season. Thank you thank you to everyone who enjoyed granita with us over the summer. We miraculously found one last hidden block of Sicilian almond paste to make a limited final batch of granita with, so this flavour will be available until it runs out.

🍇 It’s finally time for Coronation grape- we’ve turned it into a beautiful w**e-hued sorbetto.

🥛Yogurt bianco- plain white yogurt gelato, the perfect tart pairing flavour.

🍒 MandorlAmarena: Dairy free toasted almond (mandorla) gelato rippled with Italian Wild Amarena cherry sauce.

🍫 Cremino: Our Piemonte hazelnut gelato with layers of chocolate hazelnut sauce.

Pistacchio di Bronte is on the GRANITA menu this week, not available as gelato.

Our collab flavour with Jöey Nordic Seed Crisps : Lemon, Rosemary & White Chocolate is available in single serve and takeaway pints. It’s Sunday! Come try this week’s hot flaves before we switch things up next week!

Our collab flavour with Jöey Nordic Seed Crisps will be on for three weeks: Lemon, Rosemary & White chocolate , and the Rosemary and Black Pepper seed crisps that are in the gelato will also be available for purchase in-store.

Lemon cream gelato with crunchy seed crisps suspended in white chocolate sauce 🍋

DAIRY FREE Peanut butter and fudge 🥜🍫

We didn’t think we were salted caramel lovers, but this week we’ve been converted! Super creamy, buttery, with a nice hit of salt.

We turned Ginger Gold apples from Sun-Ray Orchards into a gelato that tastes like apple pie 🥧 with chunks of house-made cinnamon oat crumble.

Plum & Purple shiso sorbetto (dairy free) is made with blue plums (thank you Sun-Ray Orchards !) and an infusion of purple shiso (thank you Lindsie Canton !). The shiso lends not only a beautiful magenta colour, but an earthy, clove / anise flavour profile to this plum forward flavour.

New season, new fruit 🍏🍂

Swipe to see freshly picked crisp Ginger Gold apples from Sun-Ray Orchards be transformed into Ginger Gold apple crumble gelato.

The apples are roasted with cinnamon and brown sugar before they go into our gelato base. We top it off with house-made oat crumble and a drizzle of caramel sauce. Welcome to Fall 🍂

We’re excited to announce a special collab flavour with our friends Jöey Nordic Seed Crisps that will be available for the next three weeks: Lemon, rosemary & white chocolate gelato 🍋 This is a creamy lemon gelato with crunchy pieces of Jöey Nordic Seed Crisps Rosemary and Black Pepper gluten-free seed crisps suspended in a white chocolate sauce. Available in single serve and pints. Bonus! The seed crisps will also be available for purchase for the duration of the collab!

NEW seasonal flavour this week: 🍏 Ginger Gold apple crumble, with a cinnamon oat crumble. This tastes like apple pie 🥧

Thank you to Lindsie Canton for your generous purple shiso gift, which we have paired with plum this week. If you tried the Shiso Lime last week, give this one a shot for comparison!

Pistacchio di Bronte is back in the gelato cabinet this week, after we received negative feedback for having it only as granita 😆

Sometimes this is how a gelato flavour comes to life: A generous gift from our extended community of friends and neighbours (thank you Yi!), from wanting to capture the flavors of a place and a season, the desire to create something new out of a thing that could have been discarded, respect for the work of Mother Nature.

Sometimes it takes a village to make a gelato, and it’s how our Fig Leaf gelato came to life this week.

Lots of great local flavours this week, including a special pop up flavour from Alberobello Gelato, the brainchild of chef Lorenzo Loseto, made at GEORGE Restaurant

Chef Loseto’s flavour, Vanilla custard and Golden Plum jam, is available this week for single serve and takeaway pints.

Two hyper local flavours this week: Shiso lime and Fig leaf, thanks to our friend Yi and his amazing garden. Shiso’s flavour profile is akin to a slightly spicy basil/mint. The lime really makes the flavour pop!

Jack & Jill is inspired by Lois’ childhood Dairy Queen sundae choice: sweet milk gelato rippled with chocolate sauce and house-made marshmallow fluff (contains egg white).

If you’re a lemon person and enjoy tart flavours, give the Bergamotto granita a try this week. A cousin of the lemon, but with more floral notes. A citrus fruit that is grown very abundantly in Calabria.

And yes you see correctly, we still have cantaloupe! It’s a miracle of Mother Nature. But this will indeed be the last week of our favourite orange fruit.

Lastly, Cremino gelato is back. This is our Nocciola (hazelnut) Piemonte gelato that has swirls of chocolate hazelnut cream throughout.
And if you want pistacchio this week, it’s available as a granita. That means, the flavour is even more intense and pronounced since there is no dairy buffer! You’re eating full on pistacchio di Bronte.

Its going to be a very good week.

We start the granita season with strawberries 🍓and end it with pears 🍐.

It feels like a transition season right now… still a bit of summer and hints of autumn 🍂

Summer:

Autumn:
🍐 Bartlett pear
🤎 Cinnamon
🔵 Blue plum

We found one last batch of vampire plums in our freezer so 🧛🏻‍♂️ plum is back as a sorbetto this week. Yogurt bianco (plain white yogurt) is also back, as is rice pudding and jam. Made with starchy carnaroli rice (used to make risotto) and swirled with our house made raspberry jam.
And if you know us, we love stracciatella so much that whenever we get the chance, we will happily add it to another base flavour ☺️ So enjoy eating and saying “matcha stracciatella” this week 🍵🍫

A few dairy and dairy-free options on this week’s menu, starting with TOASTED BRIOCHE AND MARMALADE. A breakfast-y gelato! Buttery brioche made for us by Tito Toronto gets toasted with butter, brown sugar and a little hit of salt. This “toast” pairs gets paired with orange marmalade in a milky vanilla-essenced gelato base.

BANANA SORBETTO (DAIRY-FREE): Straight up banana flavour 🍌🍌🍌 Sorbetto is WATER-BASE gelato. It’s smooth and creamy just like regular gelato, just without the milk.

WHITE SESAME PISTACHIO RIPPLE is a DAIRY-FREE tahini gelato with striations of pistachio cream and toasted pistachios. If you want a dairy-free flavour that has richness and umami, this one’s for you.

LICORICE ROOT STRACCIATELLA: Not like your regular black or red licorice, this is licorice root directly from the heritage family company, Amarelli in Calabria. Licorice root flavour has notes of molasses, anise, and if you’re a fan of Italian amaro digestivos, you’ll be familiar with the tasting notes. We added dark chocolate stracciatella for a flavour and texture contrast this time!

This is your chance to experience a Sicilian style breakfast: granita and brioche in the morning starting at 8:30am, ending at 12:30pm. Espresso drinks will be available for purchase along with a few other baked goods by Tito Toronto

This event is FIRST COME FIRST SERVED so there is no need to RSVP.

Enjoy your breakfast out at our outdoor stand up bar, Italian style, or take it to go. Let’s soak up the last days of summer 🌞

Two dairy free stunners on the menu this week:
WHITE NECTARINE SORBETTO
The pretty pink colour comes from skins while the flesh of the fruit is white 🎀

White nectarine is more floral than yellow nectarine, truly a special flavour specific to this season and this area (Niagara) where it’s grown.

TAHINI & DATE
Dairy free and so creamy!
Nutty and earthy from the tahini with a deep honey flavour from the dates. The richness of this flavour comes from the tahini, no need for dairy.

Sometimes we post the flavours late because in high season we are working with what is fresh, what’s being harvested, what is *in season*.

We got an evening delivery of freshly pruned fig leaves from Carlo’s cousin Marco Bellagio Fruit Tree Services Inc. so we last minute added Fig Leaf gelato on the menu. The leaves are sooo fragrant ☘️ Like smelling a fig tree after it’s rained. The flavour has the loveliest essence of fig, vanilla and coconut.

Carlo is excited about White Nectarine sorbetto- floral and tangy, he describes it as a peach bouquet 💐🍑

We’re also loving the Chinotto sorbetto- if you like Brio, you know this Italian amaro cola drink. Very refreshing, with a citrus finish thanks to the lime and bergamot we added.

Vampire plum 🧛🏻‍♀️ is in the granita cabinet this week. A tart, grape-y plum that almost tastes like w**e.

Sicilian almond granita is back this week! A few of you did not enjoy this flavour- this is a marzipan-y almond, not a toasted almond flavour profile. Think latte di mandorla.

Locking to match flavours? Fruits go well with nuts and chocolate. And always with fior di panna or stracciatella.

This is the time of year when so many good things are being harvested that our freezers and cabinets are bursting at the seams. 🍑🍈🥒🌱

🧛🏻‍♀️Vampire plums! You’ll know how they got their name when you see the colour of the flesh. Bright and tart! 🩸

🍈Cantaloupe granita, our ultimate summertime flavour. The one we look forward to all year is finally here. 🧡🧡🧡

🥒Barese cucumber AKA Carosello: a cucumber that’s sweet with a dense flesh. It’s almost like a melon. Always in the granita cabinet this time of year.

Peach is in the granita cabinet this week and apricot cream gelato is also back this week.

Nocciola Piemonte is dairy free this week (it’s made with a water base but don’t worry it is creamy!)

Pistachio people, we have the very special pistacchio di Bronte in both gelato and granita forms this week. Take your pick 💚

The best peak season flavours are now. The best time to have granita is now. So… we’ll see you this week, right? 😉

We always say we are Mother Nature’s midwife, grateful for her bounty and transforming it into gelato and granita.

To the person (s) who asked for pistacchio di Bronte granita, your wish has been granted 💚
And to all the pistachio lovers, this week we have both granita and gelato versions on the menu.

Now if you’re on team nocciola (hazelnut) like us, this week it’s in the Cremino gelato: Piemonte hazelnut gelato that’s been rippled with chocolate hazelnut cream. 🤎🍫

Yuka from Issho Bakery generously gifted us her famous peanut butter miso corn Chex squares this week which will be chopped up into a sweet cream gelato which will also get a nice drizzle of our peanut butter fudge sauce. This flavour is gluten free. All the flavours this week are gluten free.

Milk chocolate gelato is back so if you’re looking for a dairy free chocolate experience, you will not regret getting the chocolate granita.

We wanted all our dairy free friends to try the haskap berries this week so we made Mad Haskap- a cashew base, dairy free Madagascar vanilla base gelato rippled with our house made Ontario haskap berry compote.

Lastly, what is White Coffee? It’s a coffee gelato where we’ve cold steeped the beans so the gelato is still white but the flavour is coffee. It’s a slightly milder, milkier coffee flavour than our usual brown coffee gelato. ☕️

Lots of tart flavours on the granita menu this week- balance it out with the chocolate and pistacchio! More granita flavours to come on Monday for GRANITA BREAKFAST 🍧
