Proper Drywall Installation and Taping
After the insulation is complete, you're ready for drywall.
Selecting the correct type of drywall for the application and joist or truss span is integral to the overall performance of the wall system.
Our Professional Installation Process
Drywall is installed horizontally with staggered joints.
Drywall sheets span all doors and windows whenever appropriate. Depending on the framing material, it is important to use the correct thread type for your fasteners and screws.
Joint gaps wider than 1/8 inch receive a pre-fill using a hot-mud material, such as CGC Sheetrock 20, to help eliminate air blisters beneath the joint tape.
Paper tape is always used in our extreme Canadian climate.
Mesh tape does not have the strength required to accommodate the expansion and contraction of the underlying structure.
All butt joints and corner beads receive a minimum of one coat of hot mud, such as Sheetrock 20, 45, or 90. This gives the beads and butt joints the proper body and fullness without leaving them looking cupped, uneven, or gaunt.
A Level 4 taping system is our standard for interior applications. This includes:
- Pre-fill
- Tape embedment
- Three finish coats of plaster or joint compound
- Professional sanding
The finished surface is ready for primer.
We also employ a dust-controlled sanding system for the benefit of our clients.
There is no need for unnecessary sanding between coats when the materials are applied properly.
