I didn’t come to Leaside with a business plan.
I came with a dog, a leash, and a need to breathe.
Coa was a black Lab—
a graceful explorer with a hunting instinct she never bothered to hide.
For days, I wandered with her, trying to find the hidden entrance to the dog park at Sunnybrook.
I studied Google Maps, circled the same roads more than once…
That entrance really was tucked away—
one of those things only locals seem to know.
And once we finally found it,
we began to slowly learn the park.
We walked along the quiet creek path leading to the open fields near York University.
We discovered the woodland trail that felt like a secret garden, stretching out toward Leslie.
And we followed the calm trail behind the hospital, winding all the way to Bayview.
In time, through those walks, through those pauses,
I realized something.
This wasn’t just a lovely place—
It was a place I wanted to stay.
And along the way, I met people.
They’d smile when our eyes met.
They weren’t rushing. They shared the quiet.
That left an impression on me.
It made me want to create something—here, with them.
So I turned to what I know.
Sushi.
It’s something I’ve always loved,
and something I’ve spent my life making.
I’ve been to many sushi spots around here.
Most were good.
But something always felt just a bit… out of tune with the energy here.
Then one day, it clicked.
This neighborhood needs sushi that feels like it belongs.
Not just something delicious—
but something that carries the same warmth, calm, and rhythm as Leaside itself.
So I opened Sushi by K.
Right here, in the neighborhood I came to breathe in—
and decided to stay.
