We were saving these for all that leftover Halloween candy, but who are we kidding? Who hasn't already bought their Halloween candy, and are sneaking it from their hiding places in their garages, spare rooms, cars, and know they'll need to buy more before October 31?

Some of the best mornings around Terrace start on the Copper River. Before the first cast, before the sun reaches the water, there's coffee.

Copper Morning is a bright, balanced medium roast with a vibrant character and an easy sweetness that feels right at home in those early hours. Whether you're heading to the river, the trail, or the office, this is the kind of coffee that makes an early start worth it.

Ever made a Dirty Horchata?

HORCHATA (Makes enough for about 10 drinks)

1/2 cup uncooked white rice

1 (3 inch) cinnamon stick, broken into pieces

4 cups water

1/2 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRTY HORCHATA (Makes 1)

1/2 cup ice cubes, or as needed

2 shots espresso, cooled

1/2 cup cold brew coffee, or as needed

DIRECTIONS
For horchata, combine rice, cinnamon sticks, and water in a container and let stand for 2 hours.

Drain rice and cinnamon sticks, but save the water. Combine rice and cinnamon sticks in a food processor or powerful blender. Process or blend until mixture resembles coarse sand.

Place rice mixture back into soaking water and let sit for 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Strain rice mixture through a fine sieve into a container. Add sweetened condensed milk, milk, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined and refrigerate horchata until ready to use.

For each dirty horchata, fill a glass with ice cubes and pour 1/2 cup (or as needed) horchata into the glass. Top with espresso; add cold brew coffee to taste.

Enjoy!

Did you know that the average colour of the universe is Cosmic Latte?

In 2002, astronomers Karl Glazebrook and Ivan Baldry averaged the light from more than 200,000 galaxies and found it had a slightly beige-white hue, officially represented by the colour code .

When they asked for help naming it, “Cappuccino Cosmico” received the most votes. But the astronomers ultimately chose another suggestion: Cosmic Latte.

The name has a fitting connection to Galileo, too. Latteo means “milky” in his native Italian, while Via Lattea is the Italian name for the Milky Way. The researchers also admitted that they may have been a little “caffeine biased.”

Happy International Astronomy Day!
