Doktor Luke's - a respectable coffee house

Each week Lennie picks up all our used coffee grounds to use in his garden. He also very kindly drops off a bag of whatever veggie he picked that morning. Today we were gifted a beautiful bag of tomatoes. Go check out his stand at the market today.

On Saturday September 19th Blue Heron Farm (Monique and Leonard Vassallo) will be at the Multicultural Association farmers market (NSCC Campus on Sydney waterfront) from 10am to 2pm. . We will have bunches of basil, cilantro and parsley, cherry, large and green tomatoes, chard, kale, snacking cucumbers, seasonal and spicy salad mixes, green, red and yellow onions, leeks, green and yellow beans, carrots, garlic, bunched and bagged beets and zucchini. For the first time in 2026 we will have Kuri and delicata winter squash. See you on Saturday!

CHAPTER TWO: THE WOMEN

Thirteen women singing the songs and four women telling the stories.

When this project began, each woman arrived with her own relationship to Rita's music. Some grew up with these songs, some discovered them later, some knew Rita personally, while others knew her simply through the music she left behind.

Through this experience, we've gotten to know a side of Rita that allowed us a greater understanding of the music, and of the artist she became. We've gotten to know a history that exists between the lines, of not just Rita, but of women who were fighting for change.

This show isn't just 13 women standing on a stage singing Rita MacNeil songs, it's 13 women carrying something forward.

Heads up! Time for all our staff to take our annual mini holiday. Doktor Luke’s will close early Thursday and Friday before shutting down for the weekend.

Plans include: hammocks, beaches, coffee over a fire, kitty cuddles, binging favourite tv shows, play dates with family, books about cats wearing tiaras. Enjoy the weekend!
