Afghan Kitchen is the manifestation of a young boy’s dream. He roamed the streets of Kabul in his sandals and saw how hard his family worked to sustain themselves. In the times of war, they moved to different neighbouring countries until they finally came to Canada. Afghan Kitchen presents you his vision of his very own restaurant since he was six years old. Every corner of Afghan Kitchen is thoughtfully curated. Every dish uses mum’s recipe. This is a family-owned and -run business that reflects the best of Afghan roots, traditions, and values. In Afghanistan, raisins are more than dried grapes. 🍇🇦🇫

For generations, families have harvested grapes and dried them naturally, preserving the sweetness of summer for the months ahead. Raisins found their way into our rice, our desserts, our tea tables—and into the bowls of dried fruits and nuts always ready when guests arrived.

For our family, these little traditions matter. They remind us that Afghan food isn’t only about what’s on the plate—it’s about where we come from, how we welcome people, and the flavours we grew up with.

When our family settled in Canada, we discovered ingredients that never appeared in our mother’s kitchen back home. Instead of leaving them behind, we welcomed them in—preparing them with the flavors and spices that define our heritage. What began as an experiment has become one of our family’s favorites. This dish is our story—crispy Brussels sprouts over orange hummus, layered with Afghan spices and finished with beet vinaigrette. It’s where Afghan heritage meets the ingredients we’ve come to love in our new home.

She’s been with us for the last 4 years and is one of the core members of our team. Her hard work, dedication, and positive energy have made her an important part of the Afghan Kitchen family.

Fun fact: Her dream is to become a pilot. ✈️ If you ever see a plane flying over South Surrey or Boundary Bay, there’s a good chance she’s flying it.
